well, i think flying is an interesting career to pursue, it's exciting and i can learn many life skills if i really get to be trained as a pilot. other than that, i really enjoy the service industry, which is why i feel that being a pilot would be a very good as i would be serving the flyers(i don't know what they are call as) directly, not just sitting in the office and plan stuff. specific reasons i don't know man, sometimes it's just this something that we all don't know that attracts us right?
in reply to flying.monkeyz , damn i can't find the quote option.

I do not deny that the high numbers and accelerated influx of foreigners in Singapore has caused much grief to locals in terms of jobs, public transportation, housing, education etc. However, like I mentioned, this is not the avenue to rant about it. There are many other unmoderated forums for that i.e. TR, Yahoo SG, Asiaone. Let's keep politics out of PPRuNe and let PPRuNe do what its best at: spreading rumours among professional pilots! And, while themerlion has the right to air his grievances and release steam, he also has the right to have his opinions slammed by other readers too. At least your post is rationale with valid arguments in it. His reeks of xenophobia and race machoism "But Indians from India? For FK?!!! We have enough of them here as it is. They can go back to India. We don't need them to work for us in Singapore Airlines.".
@Wenqi,
I agree with purplehearts, the cabin crew position seems to suit you more. However, if you profile is accurate, you are still young. You have a long time to decide what you want to do while gaining some life experience. Oh, by the way, you WILL be asked that question when you attend a cadet pilot interview. And, I think you need to work a little bit more on your answer to convince the panel. Good luck!

I know I'll feel great being a cabin crew, but I would really want to be in the cockpit, I feel that I'll be serving them more there, even though the cabin crew will serve them and make them happy, I feel that I'll be happier just at the front ensuring their safety. Which is a greater responsibility and I don't have to deal with asshole customers. Haha. I mean it's completely different when you're serving them by flying the plane and serving them by serving them.

"Whatever job it is, they are more qualified for it than you. The govt/companies are not stupid to go hunting overseas if they can/could find enough local talent to fill the spots!"
This is a point that I have to disagree with. Many a times a foreigner is hired because he is simply cheaper as well as having no NS liabilities that a Singaporean is burdened with. They are also younger as Singaporeans have to be 26 to become commercial pilots. India and Malaysia have no national service.
I would really suggest you just let griping pass. Trying to justify it will only stir up more feelings of grievances as I have seen at other forums. Singaporeans are a poor lot, you really need to help us or we'll be severely falling behind.

As much as i disagree with the nationality bashing, it goes both ways. I do hope other nationalities will refrain from coming into this thread and putting down Singaporeans.

Did some digging, apparently this figherkok is just a god damn troll.
Take a look at some of his posts
http://www.pprune.org/6478777-post13.html
I quote:
"Droste,
What a W$#$#R!
The Indians are amongst the best pilots in SQ! You know why? Because they think out of the box and are not obedient and say "yes Captain" like all you singaporeans! Open your eyes, they are hiring from other places than singapore, for only one reason, because the quality of pilots is much higher!
Now go get that flying job. Oops, SQ didn't take you, and the other people won't as well. Back to your mahjong then."

fighterkok, I have a job thankyouverymuch.
since you claim that military service is no biggie and that we're all barbies for complaining about having to do it, you serving in the military is very relevant.

Don't expect magic to be happening anytime within the next year or so. Things are extremely slowgoing at the recruitment side of things. Fully agree with Wings2012. Build up your savings. You'll need it when you go for flight training.

@wings 2012 & flying monkeyz. That's what i'm basically doing, moving on with life & building up my savings, building up more knowledge to prepare for the interview if selected and the interest to be an aviator will always be burning high! The way I looked at the current situation is a blessing in disguise indeed, just my opinion though
