I'd say you should carry on with "Plan B".
Times are really bad nowadays, but I won't go to the extreme of "forget about SQ". If you're really keen on flying, perhaps KIV for now and go do something else to make some $$ or occupy your time. Or you may want to try Cathay's cadet pilot program. If you got spare cash you can always pursue your flying with STAA / OAA / CTC. If you can afford it, my view is that this is the best time to go and do your flight training, cuz by the time you finish your training economy "should have" picked up by then.
Good luck.

And, while you have gotten yourself a job for now, and climbed up the ladder all the way to mid-level management, earning a good pay, able to support the family... the letter from SIA "may" arrive.
And then, you will have a bigger dilemma: leave your current job and start with a small allowance, which will remain till you finish your training which, again, may be suspended or delayed depending on the economy situation.
Decisions, decisions...

well the retards at sia took in a fk load of ppl from India and Malaysia, depriving Singaporeans at a chance to fly for our national airline.
Now they are incurring hundreds of millions of dollars of losses. they are loosing their status as the world leader in commercial aviation.
SIA was the Pan Am of Asia. And just like PanAm it looks like it is dying. Along with PAP and the other infallible institutions in Singapore.

Dear Merlion, the reason sia recruits from India and Malaysia is due to the low number of qualified candidates in Singapore. Population here as you know is not big, and not all uni grads wants to be pilots. Some Singaporeans who go for the interviews did not do their homework and know jack about flying. How do you expect the airline to select them if they can't be bothered preparing for interviews?

bro ive thought of that before. but go look at the thread self-sponsored singaporean cpl holders. after seeing qualified CPL holders who are locals not getting to SIA, i find it pathetic that SIA has to go overseas. Even Malaysians I can understand since we have Singaporeans working across the causeway too.
But Indians from India? For FK?!!! We have enough of them here as it is. They can go back to India. We don't need them to work for us in Singapore Airlines.

Actually the xenophobic views are coming to be very valid in Singapore currently. Many Singaporeans feel deprived and unloved when we did our national service and our university places and top jobs are given to foreigners easily ahead of us when we are equally qualified. I've been to other forums and similar gripes are everywhere. It's not really fair to say that someone doesn't deserve the job for airing this view, as I see the same argument made in medical forums and other job openings with this comment usually made by a foreigner.
I think it's best to let the disgruntled Singaporean blow off steam and then help him in anyway you can. Calling him unsuitable and of low quality just because he feels disadvantaged in his own homeland surely isn't going to bring out the best in the natives.
