Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia tells us Kyiv is in the process of checking out the Australian Hornets to see if they will fit its needs.

Parade of troops in Kreminna hit by Himars - heavy losses
 

A large number of troops/armoured vehicles were called to a parade to hear a motivational speech from their divisional commander, General Suhrab Akmedov. They ended up waiting more than two hours and were then hit by Himars and artillery salvos. This has been confirmed by the Moscow Times. Military bloggers were bitterly critical of Akmedov, who also commanded the 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade that suffered very heavy losses in the November '22 attacks on Vuhledar*. One commented " We are at war with our own stupidity and incompetence "

Unconfirmed losses, but some Telegram bloggers said numbers were in the hundreds: more than one day's casualties on the whole (regional ) front.

When there is a very fluid, hard-fought situation as currently in an advancing army and there are numerous enemy casualties spread around, how quickly would the advancing troops :
a) Check them for potential to carry on fighting/ shoot them in the back ( and possibly mark wounded ) ?
b) Search for wounded and evacuate them ?
c) Evacuate the dead ?

Errr, and if you did
A you would deserve all you got from their side.
B is what you do, but I doubt you would go out of your way searching an area that is still hot, that is for the follow on troops.
C again a task for the follow on troops and clearing up folks.

Misunderstanding there. I meant the wounded possibly still being capable of carrying on the fight, not summary execution.

Then you would disarm them,and evacuate to the rear, if they continued fighting and were a threat, ie shooting at you, you would kill them end off.

They have forgotten the caution to Khruschev by JFK on the Cuban missile crisis. The Last Dicktaster of Europe (LDE) might flick a bucket of sunshine, pretty sure that NATO and the USA will respond directly against Russia, as well as the LDE. Not a comfortable position, but that is the problem with an insecure sociopath. Recall what the general release following an IRBM based in Cuba was going to be? :ugh:

For Casualties and POWs in the UK ORBAT it is the job of the Company Sgt Major's team to arrange.
The medics would liaise be under the control of the CSM. They can be stand alone units.
The casualties would be passed back to the Regimental Aid Post who would carry out triage for movement further back to field hospitals and repatriation.
This is for a combat arm in a combat scenario where the battlefield is changing quickly - ie in an Armoured Brigade.
In a more static environment such as Afghanistan, then above points would be in name only and the casualties would be moved back many times from the point of injury direct to the hospital by helicopter.
The same is true of POWs.
The CSM working with the RSM would deal with the selection and triage of POWs, within the ORBAT there would be teams whose specific job is to process them.
Like anything with stripes the movement and actions of an NCO are a dark art.

The Ukrainians are not, for the most part, dealing with fanatical, highly motivated troops. The better the enemy thinks they will be treated if they surrender, the more likely to do so.
This would make the battle easier to win.
If they enemy believes they will be killed if they surrender the harder they will resist.

Two unidentified European countries, with US backing, are reportedly set to purchase hundreds of old Merkava II and III tanks from Israel.

I have a notion about where these tanks might end up….
