Wife of a mobilized man in Donbass complains that husband is at the front with no equipment, told to dig a hole with his bare hands, sit in it, anyone injured is left to die, not evacuated.

Only there to absorb Ukrainian artillery.

I keep trying and reminding people of that for what it’s worth.

Sad reading re Bakhmut.

https://www.businessinsider.com/ukra...23-3?r=US&IR=T

A Ukrainian commander said the situation in Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine, is "critical" and that there are more Russian troops surrounding the city than there is ammunition to kill them all.

Volodymyr Nazarenko, a deputy commander in the National Guard of Ukraine, told Ukrainian NV Radio that the fighting is currently going on "round the clock" as Russians relentlessly push to capture the city, according to a translation from Reuters.

"They take no account of their losses in trying to take the city by assault," Nazarenko said, adding that Ukrainian troops are trying to "inflict as many losses on the enemy as possible."

But it may not be enough. Reuters reported that Nazarenko told the radio station that Ukrainian soldiers in Bakhmut have less ammo than there are Russian troops attacking the city."We need as much ammunition as possible," he said, according to Reuters' translation. "There are many more Russians here than we have ammunition to destroy them."

On Friday morning, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary organization, appeared in a video telling Kyiv that Bakhmut was "basically surrounded," the Wall Street Journal reported.

"The pincers are tightening," Prigozhin said, urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to pull his forces from the area.

There's currently only one road left out of the city, CNN reported, and the Russian bombing of a vital supply bridge to Bakhmut has cut Ukrainian forces from critical resources.

Rhinemetall Looking at buying 96 Swiss Leopard 1A5’s for refurbishment and onward delivery to Ukraine.

https://www.reuters.com/business/aer...er-2023-03-04/

ZURICH, March 4 (Reuters) - In addition to Leopard 2 tanks, German armaments company Rheinmetall wants to buy 96 Leopard 1 tanks from Swiss defence firm Ruag to send to Ukraine, the Swiss newspaper Tages- Anzeiger reported on Saturday.

The deal involves used and non-operational Leopard 1 tanks, which Ruag bought in 2016 in Italy and which are still there.

"Rheinmetall wanted to buy the vehicles and made it clear that they would be delivered to Ukraine after being reconditioned," a spokesperson for Ruag told Tages-Anzeiger.

Me too.
On another note, there are reports in some UK tabloids that Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechen leader and once a close ally of Putin is now gravely ill from suspected poisoning. Anyone seen any confirmation of that?

Reminds me of Hobart's Funnies. Except the only funny thing about these is the poor fecker who is expected to be 12ft in the air receiving incoming 50 cal and Javelin.

Possibly an overdose of ham, judging by the videos that he has appeared in?

It makes you think they are independent, my worry would be how it handles in mud with all that weight at the back, steering must be light at the front of the tracks.

Well, Wiki says it can rake a load of 2 000 kg - which is the weight of the turret - but that would be distributed over another 10 ft forward of the turret. It's certain to affect the handling, but I wonder if the imbalance is so much that it will cause the whole thing to rear up* if the going gets boggy.

*Similar to the point you made , Nutty, about light steering, but more extreme.
