Having crash landed in Calais the crew tried to bluff they were Germans in a captured Allied bomber
All went well till Hoskins challenged them to a football match. It was at that point the Jerry's realised the crew were English

Duxford were only too glad to obtain the last air worthy Hampden* were dissapointed to find Hoskins had offered to fly it in.

Captain Eric Brown regretted trying for one more type in the log booK. We shall gloss over this one he said and immediately retired.

Advanced trials of the fitment of tricycle type undercarriage to the Hampden were so advanced that they had overtaken the actual fitting of the nose leg.

Oh I don't know, bomb bay doors, flaps, throttle, rinse, wash, wipe, call attendant and gear levers are soo similar and close together you know...

Sqn CO: Well maybe the fact the wind was blowing from the opposite direction yesterday might have something to do with you running off the end of the runway today .....

Handley Page realises very quickly that it was a bad idea to make an aeroplane that could fill it’s own water tanks, but not tell the pilots about it.

You really couldn't expect me to know the Czech for "touch and go." But I guess saying that the aircraft should graze the runway may have been a mistake.

While attempting a emergency landing at RAF Waterbeach the crew find too late the field had been turned over to be more suitable for the Army
