I can tell you to that weitht and fuel ratio aint fiction either!
490 tons to SIN aint fiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
390 PAX!!!!!
Now now, please don't start resorting to spin - leave that to Unite & BASSA.

How many aircraft does that refer to? Certainly not one.

(Mod.....'Report' claims to be a 747 pilot. BA 747s don't 'do' 490 tons, nor do they 'do' 390 passengers)

Right here, right now

Let's have a liitle look at what BA are up to.

Each strike period sees a 'ramping' up of service. LH is set to reach 80% of normal levels. JFK fully reinstated, LAX back to 3/day, MIA, back to 2/day, SFO likewise.....South Africa fully served for the World Cup.....and all during an alleged 'overwhelmingly supported' bout of IA. The papers have stopped reporting it, SKY have moved on, the 'Bad' publicity which appears to be BASSA's only weapon is wearing gossamer thin...furthermore...and crucially......not one whinging passenger on the 24hr rolling news.

BA are re-building a reputation for reliability, in the face of a ridiculous, de facto communist party led union, with a Politburo originating from the Livepudlian Docklands for goodness sake. Virtually, the entire population of the UK has been touched, for better (benefit claimants) or WORSE (the rest of us) by this recession and any sympathy for UNITE/BASSA is.......where? Bedfont? With the Strikers?... probably...but every other sane, thinking person has condemned this particular union alliance as pre-historic and self-serving. I take my hat off to DH for his sheer balls, but his child-like communications carry no substance...at all.

The strikers are being craftily isolated. Proof is that VCC are still being trained and rolled out a rate that should alarm the 'loader sh*ggers'. The CC that I have had the privilege to work with, as a team, during this IA, have been outstanding. Together, we have worked damned hard to thank the passengers for sticking with BA, in the hope that they return - they need to, they are the blood that nourishes this great Airline

If, and when, the militants are rostered back, mark this. You have a hell of a lot to live up to. The reputation of BA, during the strikes, remains strong, the Brand remains strong. Please think twice, on your return, before you spout your whinging vitriolic bile. You'll be surprised at how well we have coped without your input. The T&C's upon your return will make you shudder too. Look to BASSA for an explanation. Do not lay blame anywhere else.

..and whilst I'm at it, for those commuters that live on the other side of the planet, as DH would have it. Remember, if your journey is so difficult, Staff Travel or not, pitching up to a rostered trip, NOT SUFFICIENTLY RESTED, is in contravention of a number of safety laws. I'd ask DH to keep his burger filled mouth shut on this one, orelse the CAA will come a knocking.

Don't worry about Bedfont. From what I've heard it's so full of members from the SWP (the ones so staunchly anti capatalist even they must see the irony of supporting a strike over perks in a job that pays, generally, over the national average wage serving high fare paying passengers in club and first) that the SWP have moved their next annual meeting to Bedfont.

As for communting. BA 'recommends' you be within 2 hours of your base. But as a responsible adult the CHOICE is yours if you want to base your place of residence on a staff travel perk that can be suspended or withdrawn at any time.

Sympathy? Sorry, nope, grow up, accept responsibility for your actions and understand that no employer 'owes' you a living.

Interesting, thank goodness I live within 90 mins!!

...but, this sort of rhetoric spouted by the Branch Sec merely serves to underscore the witless nature of their regime. Virtually every utterance opens a can of worms, into which recognised authority is queueing up to climb into. This storm about ST, for example, will only serve to attract the attention of the TAX MAN!! and thereby ruin it for all in the entire industry.

Stupidity reigns supreme in the land of the 'Untouchables', I'm afraid,... and sadly, for the lemmings who have been so atrociously mis-led by a self-serving council, they are being touched at the moment - in their pockets.

The world hates uncertainty. For example, who knows how the Gulf of Mexico catastrophe is going to play out. The 'strategic' demise of BP is too awful to contemplate, but by the way the US law department, backed by Obama, is about to investigate, it's a worry. Very uncertain times ahead indeed. All of this is, obviously, out of 'our' control, but...

..might I be so bold as to suggest that, at a tactical level, if you are a striker, and sat at home worried sick about the immediate uncertainty ahead in your life, can I make a suggestion. Phone a friend, explain that you hate uncertainty and you'd like to take back a little control over things (like your finances).

Ahem, IOW, come into work, the water is lovely.

All IMVHO of course.

I find it interesting that BASSA/Unite, through that muppet DH, seem to be using commuting workers to garner sympathy. Once again they show exactly how out of touch they are with the depth of feeling against this action from Joe Public.

These commuters, enjoying tax breaks as non domiciles, are ordinary workers who, through the generosity of the BA staff travel system, have the opportunity to live ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and still hold down a well paid job in the UK. Thus it makes commuting nothing to do with BA but purely and simply a lifestyle choice for the staff member. Can't afford full fare tickets? Live next to Heathrow or get another job, especially if, as a striker, the T's & C's are so horrendous you would starve on New Fleet.

Whilst it is indeed workable and, for many of my colleagues, an enjoyable lifestyle it is something that is very rare and uncommon for most working adults within the UK job market.

So, DH, use some common sense (if you have any left) and don't try and use commuters for sympathy. It is akin to a banker complaining he needs his bonus as his Ferrari is so costly to fill with petrol.

Doesn't work.

While I agree with your sentiments, Wirbelsturm, they are based on assumption that the subjects of Duncan Holley's sob stories actually exist.

I believe they are the products of his imagination, works of fiction or - if you prefer - downright, cynical, lies.

Does no one in the BASSA camp ask their leadership any questions like:

- what are we going to do if no agreement has been reached by 12 June?
- what about the legality of another ballot over the same issues?
- what is the long term plan if WW doesn't budge?

As usual there is no substance in the news updates from DH, only emotions. Surely even the touchy feely bunch need some facts...

My post was removed, so no more sarcasm/irony/humour. I hope that all my former colleagues at BA can recover from this in the long term, and help keep the Airline running smoothly. Nobody likes change, but unfortunately it happens, and everyone else has accepted it. Not just at BA, but at pretty much every major company, and not just airlines. The mentality of BASSA reminds me of a few former colleagues up North, that came out of some BA workshops when they closed down. Militant is not the word. Every single chance to complain to, or criticise the management about literally anything was done with venom. Like others have already posted, certain people still believe in job for life at minimum inconvenience.

I am a Lic'd B1 Tech in BA Engg ........ have been reading the threads for a very long time in this particular forum and would like to add my 2p worth.
I am sure, by now, Cabin Crew (strikers and non strikers alike) know the depth of the 'anger' the other departments in BA have for you as a department (sorry to have tarred you all with the same brush but if you listen to the chatter on the hangar floor where I work, its always 'Cabin Crew' this and 'Cabin Crew' that and NOT 'UNITE/BASSA' this and 'UNITE/BASSA' that).
I, for one, have tried to stay neutral in this whole affair but the longer (and may I add, sillier) this IA is dragging on with the strike leaders "losing sight" of their ACTUAL reason for striking, I have to say that I have been driven to be with the 'others' on the opposite side of the UNITE/BASSA picket line (I base my judgment on what I READ in this particular forum and also on the excellent interviews given by UNITE (TW and DH, for example) on national TV).
And to add salt to wound, UNITE have actually agreed to BA's cost cutting measures and told us, in Engineering, to accept them without so much as a whimper! So why is it,then, that it's ok for certain department(s) but not others to 'reject' BA's company-wide cost cutting measures?
I do not wish anyone the worse but if this is how things are now, I don't think UNITE/BASSA stand an iota of a chance to win (bearing in mind, this is MY personal point of view on this issue .....yes, right, what does a knuckle dragger know eh? )
Btw, for any BA Engg UNITE shop stewards reading this ..... just would like to inform you that your illustrious leaders in UNITE have managed to convince me (finally) to terminate my UNITE membership and to increase ALAE's membership by one (me!) ......... well, at least by one today anyways ....... not sure if any other engineering staff have joined them today too

According to Duncan of Bedfont we have Nigel Stott "advising" Tony Woodley in his meetings with WW. So that's OK then. We can expect a report back to the members from Nigel soon on glorious victory.

What on earth can Nigel Stott advise on? Apart from how to skive vast amounts of time off, be 'away' sick or on hols every time the '$hit' hits the fan and loose a little money by not turning up for the ground job he insisted he should be allowed to do with his heart condition.

Once again, BASSA, lions being led by donkeys. Aren't you glad that your non legally (show of hands bruvvers) re-elected board have dragged you all into a non-existant dispute to protect their over inflated egos when they have just about forgotten what the full time job entails. Especially as all other Unions have adequately demonstrated that negotiated settlements can be achieved.

Sad, NS can't seem to remember what year his poor mum passed away (published in a Daily 'hate' Mail article: BA strikes: £40k steward Nigel Stott too ill to fly... but not to stand on picket line | Mail Online) let alone advise anyone.

Nice to see such upstanding Union representation.

had a txt from bassa ( even though I have left them about 3 months ago ) saying how everyone is drinking and having so much fun at BFC!! It stated that the Manchester/Liverpool commuters chartered a bus to bring them down to BFC and they were so drunk they all fell off the bus .. it stated it like it was a GOOD thing !!!
Beggars belief , and they wonder why today 79% of crew have reported for duty ....fact ...
Stay at BFC ... we dont want you back !!!!

According to an ESS email, talks have been adjourned, we will all be advised when they have resumed.

Let's hope we have a resolution and progress has been made so that we can all get back to work in harmony.

Winstonsmith,

Unlike BASSA/Unite, who can publish whatever garbage they want and call them statistics and figures, BA is somewhat hamstrug by having to publish figures which will stand up to independant public scrutiny.

One of those annoying little side effects of being a FTSE 100 PLC I suppose. Thus if BA crewing publish 79% attendance of rostered crew then 79% attendance it will be.

On June 1st, only one BA flight took off between 1pm and 3pm at Heathrow, bound for Seattle. Normally, early afternoon is a peak travel time for BA.
