Open days in Canada...do you HAVE to register via website or can show up? Also...

Hey,
I haven't finished my application/resume on the Emirates Website, and it has to be complete in order to register for the CABIN CREW Toronto OPEN day on the 8th.

It says spaces are limited, but I can't reserve a spot. I can't complete it because I have no way to upload pictures.

Do you really have to register to be able to get in, or can I just show up? I've read on this forum you can just show up early, but on the website it does say you must register in order to get in.

I do have a completed resume I can bring with my pictures. The pictures aren't passport quality mind you.

I’m not really in the mood to drive 2 hours, just to turn around Thanks so much. I've tried to call to find out, but nobody can give me a straight answer.

Hi lynn and Mark

I registered on the website and there were people at the OD who didn't and nothing was mentioned about it. Dont worry - they DO NOT check if you have registered

Online Registration for Open Days

Hi LynnandMark,

I don't know if it's mandatory to register online for the Open Day, but I did and about 2 weeks later got an invitation via email...

I will be attending the recruitment event on March 8 too... I guess you should try to attend without filling the online form... Many people seem to attend without registering.

Good luck!

Hi everyone,

If you happen to get pregnant, what would they do; would they dismiss you and send you home, or put you on ground duties until your pregnancy is over and then put you back on flying?

haha! guys you are joking, right?

I lived in Dubai few years back.. My gf got pregnant actually with a LOCAL GUY. And hell now she would be put in a prison.. The poor bastard had to take a good care of her.. big time money and conditions.. She screwed him right! lol Dubai is not so bad.. trust me guys!

Look.. im not saying the company will take care of you and will throw you a baby shower party.. but no jail for you either! My friend /this time in qatar, so correct a qatar airways crew/got pregnant and resigned giving them some whatever.. family issues reason.. She gave a birth and if she wanted she could come back.. Of coz everything was kept low profile and no many ppl knew..So end of story you do not want to get pregnant but if you do you will be treated in a rather civilized way..

fish Written references

Hello everybody

Still haven't heard from EK, but I'm really beginning to feel quite negative about the whole process .
2 people of the group of 4 have received a phonecall from EK this saturday, demanding for written references.
During the assessment days we were told that we would hear the results of our final interview first, and then, depending on the result, you had to send in 2 reference letters. Now all of a sudden these 2 people had to send them in immediately, even though they are still working for their current employers, and don't know if they are succesful with EK.

First of all, what's the rush? On saturday and sunday all the offices are closed in Europe, so it's really quite impossible. and second; Why do they ask you to send in a reference from your current employer while you are still working there, which is really threathening for your secured position?
Whithout even knowing if EK really wants you.
Has this happened to anyone before?
And does it say something, if they call the others, but not you?
Because of this, I really feel like crap, and very insecure as well.
On top of that, I'm still very nervous, but now in a more negative way than ever before....

Anyone here that has experienced the trouble with the references before?
And please be honest if you think that the 'missing' phonecall really means that I'm out!

Ciao!

They've called on 'your' weekend, as in the ME if i recal lcorrectly, their weekend falls on Friday/Sat, and the rest is working week.

Don't try to figure out EK and their hiring process/reasoning; you'll do yourself a brain injury!!! Honestly they're so hot and cold, no one has an idea... I guess that's the point, to keep everyone guessing!!

Well, first of all, don’t be nervous at all, coz i attended an open day 2 weeks ago, more or less, and they did not ask me any questions related to the videos they played. They were only playing those videos so you could learn a little bit more about the company and so, as well as keep you entertain while the recruiters were calling one by one of the people there presented. It was a very short interview, where they asked me why i wanted to work for them, if i was working and/or studying... etc.
Here i recommend you to wait on the line till you see it is your turn, make eye contact, greet them before sitting down, and ask for permission to do so (sit down i mean) and thank them at the end-. They will appreciate it... most of the people are not very polite... they just go there, with an angry face, don’t even say hello, and leave as if nothing... Try also to go very very well-groomed since the very first day. It also helps. Smile Smile and Smile, and be nice to people... even if you are passing all the stages, please be nice to the people who did not pass... it is always nice being comforted by sb when you are sad...
Then they make you go through more interviews, an English test and a group activity. Here, please make sure that you talk, but not in a loud and annoying way... you must offer reasonable solutions, sensible ones but WITHOUT: 1)shouting at the rest of the people, 2)keeping your pitch too high or 3)rejecting others ideas...If you do not agree, just say sth like: well... that is a good point but… don’t you think we could also do this...??? Your answers must be directed to the group, always addressed as "we", and being thought to help the people. For example, in my group, we were given a task where we had to save three people (then they cut it down to only two) from a boat. Most of the girls there were only thinking about saving them coz they were a girl and a woman, but from my point of view, you must also take into account the fact that the rest of the people who you are leaving on that boat have better chances of surviving by helping each other as a group rather than just by picking them as individuals...
The final interview is mostly about your experience with customer service.. they ask u to give examples of stressful situations... please do not lie at all, during the whole process.... people might be tempted to do so, and i think that the recruiters are very witty and they would tell... i think that one of the reasons why i got so far (it was also my first open day) was because i always told the truth and i was myself. But, obviously it is also a matter of luck i guess, and having a good day....
If you have any doubts, even if they are silly ones, please dont doubt to contact me, i will be happy to help you...
My best regards... Jani

Hello there!

If you have your assesment in a country where english is not the mother tongue, you might have to do another English test as well.
This one is quite difficult, and asks a lot of your comprehension and skills in the english language.
From our group of +- 50 people, only 20 succeeded.
You had to write an epistel of about 200 words, and there were 3 subjects to choose from. Furthermore you had to read some texts and mark the right answers regarding the text...
Not so simple... but not very difficult as well.
The good thing is that during those assesment days you have the chance to really improve on your english, since you speak with so many people and english is the main language... depends on where you go as well of course.
Still waiting for the results, already for 2 weeks now....
And heard that 2 people from our group have heard that they're in already. Makes me very nervous!!!
Ciao

Height

Xana,

at my last EK open day, they told us they no longer go by heigt, but arm reach. I believe the figure quoted was 212cm. So if you can reach 212cm with no shoes on by reaching your arm above your head, then you will be able to reach the safety equipment on board all of their aircraft types.

Just a tip, if you think you will JUST be able to reach this, stand a little closer to the wall when they get you to do this, as you will reach further than if you are standing away from the wall (obviously). If you search the CC forum for 'EK arm reach' it should give you the page on this thread where I posted the figure after the last open day.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Anyone going to the emirates open day in Dublin on 21st March?? Or has anyone been there before???

From the UK threads, it seems that hundreds attend these days, which leaves chances low of getting a job...

Jus looking for any info on the day...thanks,

Hey Buddy

Had a read of your post and really felt for u! Anyway, I've been with EK for 3 1/2 years now and when I had my interview all that time ago I had similar problems as u have! I waited close to 4 months to hear back from them while 5 of the girls which I had the interview with had a phonecall within a week! But basically what i'm saying is never count yourself out unless u receive a rejection letter. EK have some wierd & wonderful processes - (even for us as their employees), so just consider yourself still under considerations, make a couple of calls every now and then to check on your progress and hang in there!

Good Luck

fish waiting & waiting

Thanks for your reply!

This saturday EK called me, asking for the written references, so I faxed them in ASAP.
That's already one step closer to becoming EK's next flight attendant!
3 people of our group of 4 have received a phonecall telling that they're in. (still depending on the results of your medical exam though).
So I just wait, and wait some more, and be very nervous in the mean time...!
The medical exam is really something; X-ray, bloodtests, ears, eyes, vaccinations and so on. And all for your own expense....
So becoming a flight attendant for EK is quite an investment so far, but I sure hope it pays off!

When I know more, I'll post something.
Keeping fingers and toes crossed for myself!
Ciao
