Wot a good clue. :)
Found it but it's bedtime. |
Apples and pears..............zzzz
|
You shouldn't have gone to bed, dook! My first guess was the Boulton Paul Balliol, but the panel didn't match, so I looked into other 1940s-1950s side-by-side advanced trainers.
Instead of an Oxford College, I found a Greek Goddess - the Avro Athena! |
I simply thought it an idea to give "the night shift" a shot, and you pitched up on cue.
|
Sorry guys, just spent over an hour trying to get this thing to work.....bad hangover...( computer, not me)
Over to I42....... |
I'm also sorry for the delay, but it's due to me being a gentleman of leisure these days and deciding to stay in bed this morning!
The view out of the Athena cockpit must have been appalling with those gun sights in the way. Here's a cockpit that I actually had lined up for once! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....951bbc97d6.jpg |
I thought you might be working.
Now that I am retired I find I don't need a lie-in - I'm up at 0830-0900 local every day ! |
US piston trainer ?
I can't make out if it's a single or twin. Suspect twin and trying to work out why all the engine instruments are on the right. |
US piston. Not designed as a trainer, but I'm sure it has taken on that role. More clues later, if required.
|
"if required" might well be an understatement.
|
Was it designed for light attack ?
|
Ryan Navion L17-B? OH if correct |
Well, those control wheels are very Ryan, but it does look like a twin, so could it be a Twin Navion?
I see that Bear is on the same track, dunno if his designation is a twin though! |
This should be interesting when I42 comes back.
|
You can see an engine on the right....
|
I completely neglected the twin engine configuration. All credits to SincoTC! |
When I42 comes back to the bar, will someone please wish him goodnight from me.
|
Sorry guys. I’ve been out enjoying the +16° weather. Yes, the Twin Navion. A fascinating development history. It all started with a Navion owner who wanted to buy a twin. His AME said why don’t we put two engines in yours? Not difficult and it’s only a minor mod. A Form 337 will do! Making the first Twin Navion I saw our local one at a fly-in breakfast recently, which is what prompted me to look for a cockpit photo: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....e387dfc9f.jpeg Scottie’s Toy has an interesting history: C-FNHN, The History of 'Scottie's Toy' Well spotted SincoTC, you have control. |
Thanks I-42, good challenge :ok:
I spent quite a while searching for a photo showing that overhead panel after I decided it must be Navion of sorts due to those characteristic control wheels, plus that glimpse of a nacelle out of the window confirmed it 's twin! I did find a couple but they all had slightly different layout on OH panel and modern looking control wheels, but as it seemed they were all mods anyway, there were bound to be variations, so I decided to take a punt :) Here's the next one! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....893ea0f0e9.jpg Now I'm off to bed too! :) |

Cheers TC.
I found it during searches for challenges and had put it in my folder for future use - bad luck mate. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....11fc552f59.jpg |

I found it during searches for challenges and had put it in my folder for future use - bad luck mate. P.S. It looks like there's some reasonably modern electronics there, is that a mod to an older airframe or original fit? I like the pilot's personal aircon :ok: |
It is indeed a mod to an older aeroplane.
|
Russian perhaps....?
|
Russian indeed. :uhoh:
|
Antonov An-24,or variant.....
|
This one is a single-engined turboprop.
|
Has to be the An-3T ,depending on which turboprop engine is fitted....
|
Now you have me a little confused.
Only one engine type is fitted However you take the win but I have found it in several publications as the An-2-100. Maybe the designation has changed. All yours. |
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....0919b06de2.jpg
There are several turbine types fitted now to An-2,or An3,or Y-5 Chinese ones;; Wiki has some answers.. Here`s one I prefer.... |
Spade grip with firing button suggests WW2 fighter/fighter-bomber.
Hurricane ? |
Maybe a modified Tiffy.
|
NEITHER.....
|
Miles M20?
|
Fairey Battle?
|
... or Tornado?
|
Better idea, Gloster Gladiator?
