Here we are then, more like a 900hp Stampe than a buzzy Pitts,KP.....Your call Credit ;AirPortraits... |
Probably less of a handfull than a Pitts. But I'd really love to fly a Gladiator.
Try this: not sure how to shrink the image. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....4ef52a3a2.jpeg |
Do you have Windows 10 ?
|
I do.
So I need to shrink prior to importing? |
Standby for PM
|
I see a boost gauge so a supercharged engine. Suspect British.
Biplane ? |
A couple of new shots, slightlyreduced...
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1b30b747e4.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....661655e822.jpg |
Not British.
|
And this model is normally aspirated.
|
Ah - not supercharged, but is it a biplane ?
|
Not a biplane
|
Are you happy for me to delete the screenshot now ?
|
Afirm, thanks
|
Ryan ST maybe.
|
Spot on Dook. Ryan ST-A to be exact. The ST-M is nearly identical but is supercharged.

British, by the grossly over-engineered compass bottom right (why did they have to do that, eh?).
Desford? Russ (nice to see this thread going again) |
I thought it might be American until I spotted the compass. Beaufighter. |
Beaufighter it is. :ok:
Please take the stage and read your PM. |
Enters stage right, reads personal missive and declares “Roger, Wilco.” Here’s one I found yesterday. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....e49414998.jpeg |
Noted ta muchly.
Now, I wonder what you were looking for when you found it. Looks like an American flying jacket |
I was looking into the history of an aircraft that I only flew once, but it brings back special memories, not the least of which was the short and sweet de-briefing. PS Your jacket ID skills are clearly up to snuff. |
Sikorsky R4 helicopter? |
“Close but no cigar”, but it is a helicopter. |
A Piasecki ?
|
No bananas here, not even baby ones! |
This may sound silly but is it a non-American machine, perhaps captured ?
|
Early Enstrom....?
|
I’m struggling to find a helicopter of the period that has a divided windscreen and no substantial downward glazing. There’s one that fits but I’d be amazed if India Four Two got to fly it as only one was built. The Higgins EB-1. |
It is American. Not an Enstrom. Everyone is chiming in with the wrong names! See what I did there. ;) PS I’ve just seen oncemorealoft’s post. I didn’t fly this aircraft but I did fly its direct descendent. |
Bell XH-40 |
Slb is half right - it’s a Bell. I wondered if XH-40 was an alternative name for my challenge and had to look it up. The panel in my picture is not the Huey prototype. This helicopter has a piston engine. |
One cannot be half pregnant. I cannot locate a Bell piston type cockpit which matches |
Bell model 30 ship 2 nice video |
Well done Slb. That's the very video that I lifted my picture from. I was going to recommend the video too. A must-watch for anyone interested in helicopters.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d89e5d115d.png The helicopter I flew was the Bell 47, which was developed from the Model 30. I couldn't find any reference to the missing numbers 31 to 46. Can anyone shed any light on that mystery? The narrator of the video, Bartram Kelly, was the longtime Bell chief engineer, responsible for many of that company's significant helicopters: https://airandspace.si.edu/collectio...ries-1941-1980 Slb has control. |
Thanks I42 There was also a Bell model 42. Now this https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....e7322ce36.jpeg |
Goedemiddag Bear.
American military ? Is the large central instrument a crude altimeter ? |
Is it a monoplane,as I see no struts,,,,1910-15...? No rpm gauge,or elsewhere...?
|
The rpm gauge is on the left.
