Looks like you got it sabredog. Spent a good part of the morning in Norway (GE) Jan Mayen and all, and missed it :*
Spent some time time in Nunavut trying to find paved airfields. Too good-looking surface for Siberia. Ho hum. |
sabredog is correct:ok: Fahr Rost Lufthaven, Lofoten Islands, Norway. Terrence has control.
Graveley??
Sorry,Chevvron. It is not Graveley.
Steeple Morden?
Little Staughton?
Sabredog, how many of these towers (three middle-sized windows) RAF aerodromes had, at one point in their history? More than 50, I'd guess, but how many more?
Never had the time to count them,Regdep!
Kimbolton Airfield?
Leicester East?
Sorry,Gentlemen, neither Leicester East or Kimbolton, but was used by the 8th.Air Force.
Wow! That narrows it down to 72 airfields.
RAF Andrews Field Edit: If not, RAF Deenethorpe |
Neither,Regdep.
How about Boxsted, then. That would qualify as an obscure one.
Or Great Dunmow . . . |
Sorry,Regdep, it is not Boxted. The photograph is available on the web,and
the U.S.A.A.F. operated both the A-20 Havoc and the A-26 Invader from this airfield. It's name belies it size! |
386th Bomb Group, Matching Green.
Little Walden? (if I understand correctly what "bellies" means)
Matches also the Havoc and Invader clue. And the tower is of the correct type, medium front windows 343/43. Found the photo :ok:. |
I reckon its RAF Little Walden?
Little Warden is correct,Regdep. Sorry,Stressfree, pipped by one minute.
Welcome to the thread. Regdep,YHC |
