The P-44 was a radial engine....it was the forerunner of the P-47. There was a P-441 development but again that was radial.
I'm presuming we are looking at variations of the P-47 plus a number suffix? Hence my theory P-471!
The Republic project no's were AP-1 upto 100.

Ridge Runner & Skytrain,
You have both obviously been ridge-running around for most of the day with this one.
I have it referenced in an old publication and found a line drawing on the web, the latter I have redrawn as a silhouette.
I have it as the Republic P450.
So to stay within the spirit of the thread I shall take an unusual step and give it to both of you.
First to post takes the thread - clock running.

Hi LM
I have read with great interest your challenge concerning Republic P450. You say that a line drawing (and maybe more information?) is available on the web.
Well sofar I couldn't find it.
Would you be good enough to tell me how to reach it? I'm sure quite a few people would be interested otherwise you might send me a PM .
Thanks mate

While we wait for RR's offering I would also be keen to see details on the P450. Your source may of course have references to other potential challenges, but if you are able to provide some info it would be appreciated. Cheers Ken
Me too, me too. ^_^
Good evening gentlemen.
In response to your questions re. the Republic P450:
The scant information about it is an article in a 60s magazine about the development of the P47.
Republic designed a jet-propelled version named the P450. It was a simple matter to remove the radial engine and replace it with an intake duct leading to the turbojet. The high cockpit meant that the intake air could easily be directed beneath the cockpit to the engine. The rear centre of gravity resulted in the retention of the tailwheel.
I then searched the net for a drawing. This may be found by proceeding as follows:
1. Google images "Republic P47 jet airplane"
2. go to page 2
3. 5th from the left on the top line
4. select full size image
I have no information as to whether it flew or not.
If it caused heartache and grief I apologise.
Incidentally, Noyade is not playing because he is in Canberra for a few days.
I also have had much heartache and grief today trying to teach aerodynamics to a first-year university course....

Ah, Potez 630, but can't be. Wrong engines and wings. You haven't got a better drawing? Well. Must be something else.
