Wow...that's puzzling...and kinda nervy of 'em.

Good to get the word out about that...it appears you have ample other choices and opportunities.

That is odd about the bonus.....

Anyway, so do you need a FAA CPL to get across or can you have an AUS CPL with all the mins and then convert it directly to a FAA ATP as part of the company line/type training?

Obviously one is way easier than the other.

You don't need an FAA license of any sort before going across. Not even a PPL. If you meet the minimums for the issue of an FAA ATP, then your type rating checkride doubles as your FAA ATP checkride.

Just make sure your CASA MECIR and medical is current at the time you do the checkride.

To add to the above you also need the FAA verification of your foreign license letter in hand, it’s valid for 6 months, takes about 2-3 weeks to get by the time CASA sends all the stuff back to the FAA.

Licences

Any idea if it’s the CASA mecir and medical that has to be current or is an Aussie passport with foreign licence, IR and medical also good?

All your Aussie stuff has to be current to use the letter of verification for your FAA type/license ride

Havick, Just going back a few pages ago on this same thread. People are saying that as your MECIR doesn't expire anymore (Since part 61 came on) that the your final sim ride doubles as your check for that aspect. Is this your understanding also?

All I know is that in order to use your Australian license (via a letter of verification) to go straight to an FAA ATP, the FAR’s require that your foreign license (being you Australian one) has to be current in every respect In order to actually take your FAA ATP/Type rating flight test.

I haven’t looked at Aussie regs for 2 years so I can’t answer Aussie part 61 questions without possibly giving you incorrect information.

Have you read the FAA FAR’s part 61, it’s all spelled out in there pretty clearly what is required.

Yeah you only need to have the mecir on your licence, don’t bother with a renewal. On part 61 it is perpetual.

Perpetual - yes.
Valid - maybe/yes.

Current - not if outside the dates specified in you licence.

I'd want to make really, really sure - it's not about what the Australian regs say it's about what the FAA wants, needs and accepts before starting your FAA checkride.

Debating semantics with your FAA checker not a great way to demonstrate understanding, preparedness, CRM, team building etc etc and all the other "buzzwords" which achieve so much!

Well to answer your question directly from the guy who will be checking your credentials prior to starting the ground school (At Skywest anyway):

Thanks for the clarification guys.
Is it ok if the class 1 has lapsed and only the Aussie class 2 is current for the medical? Already did the FAA class 1.

Just interested as an outsider the question:

Do you need an FAA ATPL to start training with (in this case) SKywest?...YES/NO

If "NO" then IPC currency not required - maybe desired or preferred but not a requirement, your final SIM check obviously with a Skywest checker who's a FAA delegate.

Certainly interesting option(s) that wasn't there a few years ago.
Cheers.

I stand corrected. Things have certainly changed since I did mine over 12 months ago.

Currently eating my hat also. The regs or a circular used to specify everything foreign must be current.

Thanks for all the useful info folks...
- How many years is the E-3 visa for valid for?
- Can you change companies at a later date, or are you limited to your initial employer?
- Can you get a Green Card via the E3 visa you stay the required time?

1) valid two years but renewable.
2) it’s tied to initial employer, if you change employers you need a new e3 and have to apply from outside the US.
3) no path to green card unless you marry an American while you’re on your E3.

Ak ok, thanks...so really it would be an hour-building exercise for people wanting Jet time, and then to move back out of the USA - rather than a partway onto a Major Airline within the USA?
Pity no Green Card! Personally I’d love to try aim at a multi-engine Fixed-Wing Fire Fighting Job, but I don’t suppose they issue E3 visas for FOs on such aircraft?
Still, Jet time in an Airline might be worth pursuing!

What salary are Aussies currently on the visa with Regionals taking home?
Cheers...and thanks for the info.
