Anyone know if it's possible to have your university degrees FAA approved/accredited in order to qualify for reduced aeronautical experience (total time) for a restricted ATP?

It appears to me that the academic institution is what gets FAA approval vs a stand-alone slate of courses.

On the last page of this link is an FAA email address. Perhaps they'll be able to answer your question:

Maybe they are in Port Keats or Balgo Hills chasing the first 1,000 hours in a C206?

If an Aussie pilot wanted a sabbatical / change of scenery / adventure in the US for a few years rather than maximum hours and a ticket into China....where would you suggest he or she went?

Boston sounds like a nice place. Are there any Shiney New Jets in Boston screaming for my services? Are there any companies in the US that give pilots enough time off to smell the roses?

Where to go ? The first place that'll take ya...work out details later.

BOS is a very expensive place to live but it's a nice place. Not sure if a regional has a base there. I could research that but...

Smell the roses ? Sure...if they're on the way to the airport. Smell fast...drive faster.

You in the queue ?

Skywest for quicker hours.
Piedmont for better travel benefits (and flow through to mainline if you can jag a green card or end up marrying a local girl).
Avoid Mesa or Trans States

havick,

I was just being a wise guy.

Pen Air has a BOS base but it's not clear if they're taking E3s or not:

Havick,

I have heard about Mesa not being "the first choice" for pilots but what is actually wrong with the place? Also Trans States?

The reason I ask is employees of airlines in Australia that some deem "awful" also have employees who seem happy enough.

Asking questions about aircraft in an airline interview, now very quaint!

So what would be the pathway for a new CPL in that case?

There isn’t one unless you meet FAA ATP aeronautical experience minimums.

jjhews,

That's been THE question since they put in the 1500 hour rule here. But, people will just get flight time the same ways they always have.

It's been a long time since I perused the XJT hiring info but here's this in case you guys weren't familiar with it. Just another opportunity for those considering a jump:

ExpressJet is owned by SkyWest but there is talk that United might be interested in buying it. Whether this translates to a flow of pilots from XJT to UA mainline, it’s anybody’s guess.

We should start seeing the first Aussies flying in the US under the E3 visa upgrade to Captaincy soon after the 2018 new year.

VH DSJ,

Correct. There is already an XJT-UAL "pathway" program but all that glitters is not gold. Read the FAQs at the bottom of the page for the differences for CRJ vs ERJ "XJT" pilots:

https://www.expressjet.com/careers/p...athway-program

UAL has certainly hired more XJT pilots than DL, for example. The last time I saw hard data from XJT, it was a 2:1 ratio. Maybe now that DL has dumped XJT, that'll change...or maybe not.

GA,

So far no scuttlebutt from the rumor mill about an end to the Aussie "boom". But then, it took a long time for these regionals to admit they were soliciting Aussies to start with.

You thinking about taking a run at it ?
