Obviously one is way easier than the other.
You don't need an FAA license of any sort before going across. Not even a PPL. If you meet the minimums for the issue of an FAA ATP, then your type rating checkride doubles as your FAA ATP checkride.

Just make sure your CASA MECIR and medical is current at the time you do the checkride.
