Valid - maybe/yes.
Current - not if outside the dates specified in you licence.
I'd want to make really, really sure - it's not about what the Australian regs say it's about what the FAA wants, needs and accepts before starting your FAA checkride.
Debating semantics with your FAA checker not a great way to demonstrate understanding, preparedness, CRM, team building etc etc and all the other "buzzwords" which achieve so much!
