You don't need an FAA license of any sort before going across. Not even a PPL. If you meet the minimums for the issue of an FAA ATP, then your type rating checkride doubles as your FAA ATP checkride.
Just make sure your CASA MECIR and medical is current at the time you do the checkride.
To add to the above you also need the FAA verification of your foreign license letter in hand, it’s valid for 6 months, takes about 2-3 weeks to get by the time CASA sends all the stuff back to the FAA.
