"15 minutes for check-in, seven minutes for security, and 11 minutes for passport control," is good but very selective use of statistics. Taking a look at on time performance paints a very different wilted roses picture!

Mild panic here at Luton as the revised temperature forecast has increased by another degree on Monday to 40C. It makes a nonsense of Luton’s claim of green growth only if people believe in climate change when they still plan to double the size of the airport. Will the runways and taxiways hold out, will the machinery hold out, will the baggage handlers hold out? Lots of finger crossing and hoping for the best but fearing for the worst.

I hear the airport has its secret weapon on standby for a potential 41C. Sand!

In years gone by the fire service hosed the stands down to stop them melting, almost certainly need that now.

I am told the airport is closed, just as I predicted! Nothing changes............

As soon as you get any significant turning, it is inevitable in these temperatures.

Airport peaked at 36C now “only” 35C, nowhere near the predicted 40C.

So suddenly the airport has become greener like LRT said it would but only for a couple of hours.

The airport has had contractors on standby all day, as they knew this was going to happen and it did. The issue appears to be the bonding swelling between the joints.

Now who took that photo?

This is the airport this afternoon operating well below capacity but with delays. Not a good image when they are trying to increase the passenger cap without altering the terminal.

I am told that melting is more likely when you layer tarmac over the years. No idea when the runway was last dug up for a proper re-surface though?

Impact damage can occur, as well as heavy braking, plus the turning effect of tyres.

The video is from last year but it seems longer. Also from the distant past part of the runway was raised by 0.9m to remove a hollow.

Double tape the video for full size.

When you resurface a runway, you do it in 'narrow' strips and where those abut, you fill with liquid tar.
