So this lady thinks moving out of the queue into a lane opened up for Passengers with children entitled her to take her 17 yr old through--really.
Says she was dropped off 1hr 40 mins before the flight so by the time they got into the terminal it would have been far less.

It doesn't have the capacity to hold 15m in any comfort.

As part of phase one for airport expansion the plan was to put an extra 3.5m passengers through the existing terminal with minimal alterations to the building. In a current report to the Council, Luton Rising Temperature has increased that figure to 5m.

The DCO will make provision for growth through the existing terminal to be extended to circa 23 mppa to ease the path to further growth by reducing the likelihood of prolonged periods of stagnation.
At 23m I expect all the seating to be removed with passengers given slots to enter the terminal and for public safety to be put at risk.

The lady refers to the baggage handling area but I think she is taking about security as well as check-in
I can vouch for this - 2 hours almost wasn’t enough for me at the start of the week. It was horrendous.

Surely if checkin allows you to checkin then it should be with at least minimum adequate time to get through security to the gate before gate closing time? This obviously implies going straight to the gate with no shopping! After all the last thing the handling agents want is to be offloading bags.

On saying this personally I usually find the checkin and gate experiences as the lowest point of using Luton.

Recently passing through security most of the lanes (80%?) were shut.

There is always fast track security at £6 per passenger including all children aged over 2. The airport operator at Luton is incentivised into being inefficient, as a cost to the business can be turned into an opportunity to claw back some of that money. The sad truth is that the longer the queues the more money the concessionaire makes, so is being rewarded for offering a poor passenger experience.

Noticed that they are planning operating a once weekly (Sunday ) flight to Izmir in W22/23 schedule after Xmas for Jan- Mar.
Think this is the first time they have scheduled flights over such an extended period in Winter.

The Public Inquiry instigated by the Secretary of State regarding the called-in planning application for expansion to 19m will start on September 27th and last for up to 10 weeks.

Now who thinks the airport owner was not biased in awarding planning permission that was submitted by their own partner? In fact did the airport operator act as the council’s stooge and it was always really the councils own application?

According to FR24, the flight operated direct Yerevan-Luton-Yerevan.

Don't know if it is still the case but once Luton was the only London Airport to accept this sort of flight in the early hours but that will end soon for the annual summer night time ban for one off charters.
