I actually think Cathay doing 9-10 weekly is more than feasible, when you consider their operations (most of their European routes operate more than daily, and when you consider the size of their UK offering in particular, now 7 daily and cargo flights to boot, pretty impressive).
Along with natural route growth, I see no reason CX couldn't operate more than daily. Obviously we are not talking 3 daily and beyond, so hardly unrealistic aspirations. I personally didn't see QR going more than 2 daily before EY, but it happened, so, stranger things can happen.
And if we want to get technical, then technically, SQ is more than daily at MAN (younger is firmly in cheek before anyone takes it seriously!)

Any further news of this PVG/MAN service? In the past, it has been said it was a slot problem at PVG, but Air China have just announced PVG/BCN x 3 weekly commencing in May so some slots must be available at PVG.

I thought we had finally de-bunked the theory that the MEB3 were 'holding MAN back'?
HKG was always Emirates biggest connection ex-MAN, yet CX started, now going daily yet EK still brought the A388 to 3 daily.
It hasn't stopped HU/SV/WY and others starting, as well as SQ going back to non stop, so maybe, just maybe, the MEB3 isn't the be all and end all at MAN?

Personally, I think the traffic flows of the MEB (3 and counting) demonstrate the viability of routes ex MAN. Some of these come off (HKG is a good example) some not yet (eg BKK, TYO).
There is a limit to what can be achieved by the likes of EK at MAN. I know there are plans for a fourth daily flight, but with morning afternoon and evening departures on the largest aircraft on earth it is difficult to see what commercial advantage a fourth daily departure can give.
Into this space comes the likes of SQ (I understand MAN-SIN has exceeded expectations) HU and CX. I very much hope to see SQ get back to daily (with or without the IAH tag) with HU. I also look forward to new carriers entering the market with more flights to Far East hubs.
The other point to make is that MAN does not just serve Manchester. It squarely serves Liverpool as well as Leeds and Sheffield (to a lesser extent other cities). This is a vast market, even by clawing back some leakage from London area airports would make a significant difference.

However freight itself in most cases does not demand a direct flight, evidenced by the amount of freight trucked between airports and from the UK to mainland Europe.

My understanding is that stand 211 onwards from T2 will be closed off in the not too distant future, to allow work to commence on MANTP.
Could this be holding back airlines from expanding, or even lead to the reductions (ie VS).
T2 is busy as it is at the moment, take 4 stands out of the question over the next 12 months and...

Not sure if it's still true, but I recall reading somewhere that it's the group with the highest disposable income, so makes perfect commercial sense. I guess that even these days with the options available, on average they will have less kids draining the coffers!

Pax vs Freight on the A380
We've often heard reference to the A380's relative lack of cargo capacity and how that affects the economics of routes where the A380 replaces the B777-300ER, e.g. MAN-DXB. This morning's EK022 left with 510 pax (just 7 empty seats) and over 18000kgs of freight. Now, a B77W could no doubt have carried more under the floor, but that doesn't sound a bad freight load on a nearly full A380. Is it really such an issue?

I don't know where your information about stands 211 onwards comes from.
In other news, looks like the KU JFK transit is completely ngvto Manchester after all. In at 1415, out at 1630 from 21st April.

I've heard it's staying at MAN, as putting a lot of effort into setting up the MAN stop.
The reason for the 'may 19th' swap date may be that KU review the situation on a monthly basis, currently it has the STN stop going back to 'non stop' again from that date. It's just the review date.

I don't see why Stand 211 would go Straight away since on the arrivals floor it's literally the closest one to Passport Control, plus that Stand and Stand 212 are in the main shopping area. I would understand if Stands 213-215 were to be closed early though.

Stand 211 is unaffected until later in the programme. Stand 212 closes in May/June to become the site of a temporary gate lounge to replace the gates 213-215 which are demolished by the end of summer to make way for the terminal extension. Stands 213-216 are reconfigured in May/June to be served from the 212 gate lounge. Tenants in that part of T2 are relocated to new accommodation. Stakeholders have been consulted. Watch those Operational Advice Notices on magworld.co.uk. This is the start of redevelopment MAN has not witnessed in many years, if indeed ever.
