Excellent news indeed.
A daily A359 provides 1,960 seats a week each way, compared to 1,360 seats on the 4 x weekly B777 up to now, an increase of 44%. But a daily service is a real bonus.
Not sure what the implications are for freight.

The A359 has 172cu/m of belly capacity compared to 202cu/m for the 77W. So with a daily service and Cathay's relatively low density seating configuration, freight will be very well catered for.

Is it a 'permanent' increase for Cathay or just the period over Christmas and New Year? 110Cornets' post seems to indicate the change covers the period 10 December 2017 to 6 January 2018?

Cathay every day
Very welcome announcement. It will have taken 3 years since the return of CX to MAN in December 2014 to reach a daily frequency, much longer than expected due mainly to Gatwick slot grabs. To be fair, the return itself was earlier than forecast.
Going East out of MAN really is a feast
Going West looks to be in for a test.

It will be interesting to see the effects of this.
For example, are passengers choosing to fly long haul east rather than west? Or are they choosing to not fly at all? If they do fly, are they choosing the cheaper option, or are they sucking up the higher cost?
Either way, Cathay is very welcome and lets hope it sparks HU and SQ to match their frequency.

It's great to see CX daily from December. Any predictions for maybe 9-10 weekly next summer.
Would hazard that a 2nd Monday flights, and seems Saturday is a strong day for eastbound flights (HU/SQ 3xQR and so on), so possibly a 2nd flight that day too?
Evening flight arriving approx 1700 departing 2000? CX do a few later flights from Europe so could fit into that bank.

CX
I'm a fairly frequent MAN-HKG traveller and have by and large favoured one of the ME3 mainly due to the superior in flight travel experience (up front class).
However, when I do fly CX the over riding factor for me, is that it is generaly 5 hours quicker than via a ME3 hub. I'm always amazed how full the front bit on CX is. I came back about 10 days ago & only 1 empty seat in Business- that's pretty normal.
I've flown on many CX sectors on different routes that nowhere near has the J class demand that MAN has.
My other half currently lives in HKG and travels very frequently to Europe for work. Wherever he is, he always ends up flying to LHR to get an evening flight back to HKG. Many people need to work a full day & fly back- a Midday departure isn't always the best.
For whatever reason CX appears to have a very solid loyalty base (it's not even that CX fares are cheap- they are not), they really should capitalise on this whilst the flow is with them.
One thing I would like at MAN would be for CX & QR (One World) to get together a share a decent business lounge. The CX lounge at LHR is superb. Obviously one flight a day at MAN doesn't justify the cost- but if they could share with QR would be great for both airlines.
If there could be an evening flight- from a business view Friday would be best.

It would be great to see an evening departure time from one or more of CX or SQ from MAN. As Mr A Tis says, far better to depart immediately following the working day/week (where you'll sleep anywhere!) than wait until the next morning.
Lounges at MAN
I expect a consolidation of long haul flying into the new T2 at MAN. I had expected the main airlines and airline groups to have their own lounge in the new building. For example, Emirates, VS/DL and Etihad would have their own, and you could see One World (inc. CX, QR, BA, AA), Star (Inc. SQ, UA, LX, LH, SN, SK, TK, TP) and a Skyteam Lounge as well as Escape.
Hopefully that is the plan, I await with baited breath.

A meal with the client after the days negotiations and then a quiet hotel room as far better ALWAYS what ever those coffins *biz seat contraptions offer*

Jet2 A330
The word is ,it is coming from Air AsiaX, but they only operate the A330-300 so is it a 200 or 300 series? and is it coming from Air AsiaX or not? I booked seats on the A330 last August 2016 to fly to Lanzarote August 2017, but 4 of the 7 seats I booked don't appear on the seat plan on the booking page now, so is the aircraft coming from a different source than planned? Just in case I will be changing my seat bookings tomorrow so that we still sit together. Its so annoying when they make these changes without letting you know well in advance, its only by doing a 'dummy booking' to see how many seats were left that I found out, goodness know where they were going to relocate the rest of my party. Can anyone give any confirmation?

Air Asia X have nothing to do with it. Airtanker are providing an A330-243 (G-VYGL).
Air AsiaX were going to provide an A330 last year however they had problems with the CAA.

Don't see Cathay at more than daily any more than I see SQ doing the same. The A350 should do well for them though. As for co-operating with Qater, neither carrier is famed for co-operating deeply in Oneworld, least of all with each other alas.
Also, due to astonishing mismanagement, Cathay's financials remain lacklustre....
