If Cityjet comes to SEN and if they reopen good routes with good scheduled services then it will be good for all involved - SEN, City, and the pax too.
RJ's perfect type a/c for SEN.
I sincerely hope this noise becomes a reality. Here's hoping!
Will be good to see that Dublin service reinstated.

As Skywork found out passengers won't follow them to the coast. London City and Southend are two different markets. If there is enough passengers wanting to use a Southend service then all well and good but don't expect the City people to give up their preferred airport.

IF CityJet did come to SEN it would be interesting to see if they did try DUB or other UK domestics (GLA, EDI, or BFS/BHD), especially with the competition at LCY. What other European destinations could they serve with an RJ? Also aren't WX taking delivery of Sukhoi Superjets this year, perhaps some spare RJ's to use?

Valet Car Park
Just an update to say that the proposed valet car park at Warner's Bridge was today approved by Southend Council.
260 spaces, to be used at set times (times to be confirmed).

I know I have mentioned this before but when the short and long term car park is by the terminal why would anyone want valet parking? Surely that only works when the long term car park is on the other side of the airport and is a bus ride away?

Your guess is as good as mine. I reckon this won't be built for a while, not until the demand requires it. Even if the planning permission expires they can still re-apply and it would (probably) be approved again.

Sad state of affairs when the only constant good news coming out of Southend is the latest diverts from London City.
What the hell is going on at this airport when the airport can't even pick up any crumbs of the many new routes that seem to be announced almost weekly at the other London airports.
What is going on at Luton is just ridiculous. The airport is full, the place is a building site, yet passenger numbers are up 25% and still new airlines are piling into the place for the first time with new routes that often duplicate what is already on offer from the airport yet Southend doesn't even get a sniff.
Adria having abandoned Southend for a new route to Luton this year is just the icing on the cake.
If these are the good times for airlines operating to and from the UK what is going to happen to Southend when the next bubble bursts?

Feels like Southend is on care and maintenance only programme. I am sure there are folk trying to pick up business but whatever they are doing it isn't working.
There must come a point when Stobart decide enough is enough and decide to sell out which is what they are trying to do with their airline. When the airline goes I have no doubt their remaining routes from Southend will also go.
I like to think that a new broom might signal some progress but to be honest I am not so sure.

Perhaps PITAs antipathy towards SEN could be better directed at LCY - like why would anyone pay £2bn for an airport that is the countries premier in terms of diverting flights away from it! Any perceived drawbacks at SEN would, I suspect, disappear overnight if LCY was bought to be developed for Chinese real estate and closed as an airport -LCY might even be worth £2bn for that!
As for attracting new flights, all London airports (with the exception perhaps of LHR) have been subject to '3 steps forward, two backwards' during their histories as they try to build business and become established. SEN is no different in this.

IM a good point indeed some of us can go back as far as the 70's recalling the struggles first hand. I am sure SEN has a place and business will improve again. However, customers only have so much money and time to travel, the momentum has to slow down.
On another issue when the 3rd runway and terminal 6 arrive on scene late 2020's, LTN, STN and others will be in for further hard times, especially as Easy/others will want to be at LHR !
This industry never stands still.

A bit of a kick in the teeth for Southend as I thought Southend would have been ideal for BA Express. Looking at one of the arrival times of 01:05 I wonder if the fact that Southend is not 24 hour has cost them the airline? Also a 5.40 deparure would have also ruled out SEN.
