Not sure if the BACF move justifies the drama. We are talking aobut four weekly flights, that equals rougly 1/6 of an aircraft based at SEN...
As for the coach link, the question is if its lack really costs SEN passengers or if it simply means that those passengers affected will invest nicely in Stobart's parking lots at SEN - thus earning Stobart revenue instead of costing them money because of a heavily subsidized coach link.

I remember when the Docklands Development Corporation had the slogan "Why leave when you need to keep coming back?" pasted over a selection of adverts for places that were "only XX minutes from London..."

West End of London
Have to agree, the West End should have been destination from all of the airports and, sadly, Southend would have most probably come last in that race.
However what it does show is that if you do need to visit the East End then Southend is very well placed. They need to refine their message and talk specifically to those businesses that need access to the East End at cheaper than London City prices.
If the airport understands what their niche offering is and understand who their customer is, they should get some bizjet movements in.

Already been part on but the full interview is indeed at 22:30 BBC iPlayer - Look East - East - 11/02/2016 Have a look at 11 minutes 30 seconds. Oh and they showed a view inside Luton's terminal which was meant to be Southend.

I am unable to see the interview on BBC because I am not in UK. Basically what was said or was it all wishful think?
I can't believe they should inside Luton's terminal by mistake. Must be ex: Evening Echo staff!

Just watched the iplayer again and here are the key points
Airport boss said he expects to hit 2.5 million in the next 3 years. Also talked about 5 million and beyond.
Airport relies in budget airlines and has all its eggs in one basket with Easyjet according to the commentary.
Lots of competition from Stansted.
Commentary also said business is on the up with no mention of the downturn.
The full interview at 10:30 wasn't broadcast

LTNman - i saw the entire interview on BBC Look East last night but it may have only been on the regional news which covered Essex area and not Beds. I was not very impressed with the performance. I guess you remember Glyn Jones from his Luton days.
The Management have got to put in some very hard work NOW, if they want to stand any chance of achieving 2.5 m by 2019

BBC East News Item
The full interview was shown by the transmitters in the east of the region but obviously not on the transmitters for the west of the region so LTNman would not have seen it. Didn't miss much; always talking with airlines and when there is anything to report then will do so. Obviously nothing to report at present.
Regarding passenger numbers, I think he said that 2 million within a couple of years and capability to handle 5 million by 2020. Any further expansion beyond that would need careful consideration and thought as to how this could be achieved. Don't think he said anything at all that we didn't know already!

Hmmm. Well, he came over reasonably well but he clearly had nothing new to say, or at least nothing new that he was prepared to say. He managed to evade the interviewer's question on the downturn in pax numbers rather adroitly.
Glyn - get Air Malta and Wizz Air on the phone please.......

The interviewer mentioned the loss of 100,000 passengers in 2015 (even though it was actually more like 200,000). Obviously Glyn Jones didn't explain why that was the case, and instead just said every airport has its ups and downs.
As for business being on the up, I would like to see some actual evidence of this from the airport.
Commentary also said business is on the up with no mention of the downturn.

Yes I heard that on the long interview but when I posted my original comment I had only heard the cut down version.
I don't know what to say about the interview. He talks the talk and comes across as someone that knows what he is talking about so we will have to wait and see I guess. Interesting point though when he said that Southend has 1% of the London market and is looking to get 2%. When he puts it that way the task seems easy.

In response to LTNman's post regarding time restrictions at SEN.
I have not been one to post on here - simply observe and see what is said. I'm not 100% if it is the council that set the time restrictions or a simple agreement between SEN and the council. Either way it doesn't stop empty/positioning aircraft arriving and department during the midnight hours...I imagine the implications of having services operate at times after midnight and before 0630 would be workers. If i am not mistaken they don't do night shifts and certainly don't have the suitable number to start re-shuffling to bring in said night shifts either..does anybody know if the commercial team that disappeared were ever replaced?
