Sea air
Just a thought. Thomson website shows increase on PMI route from 2017. Could they be planning on using the SEA AIR jet. The job advert for staff said it was for a charter base ??

Thomson
We had been promised expansion before from Thomson. Remember when they said 2x weekly PMI and Ibiza as a new route, but then cancelled it. Think there is potential for TOM to increase flights, especially whilst EZY only have a 3 aircraft base.

Sea Air announce Maribor as 3rd new route to/from SEN.
No suggestion of frequency or start date yet, just says summer 16.

I think Sea Air intend to piggy-back on the Hangar8/Maleth-Aero AOC to provide this service. Unfortunately Hangar8 only have the one 737-3 under management for charter sales which means cover is non-existent in case of an AOG incident. That aside good luck to Sea Air.

I was under the impression that SEN was a tad short for 737 ops but that might only be relevant to the NG -800 aircraft.

The 73-3 at Lasham is an Aerovista aircraft. If Sea Air use this one it will be a departure from them using Maleth/Hangar8, however they would have the 73-5 as cover as Aerovista have both a 73-5 and an A320 on their books.

Will be superb when the new coach service starts up. What about trains though? I've seen official lines from the airport several times now making reference to the new rail franchise which starts later this year. I'm guessing they know something we don't? I remember hearing that the relationship between the airport and the current franchise operator isn't good; if the airport thought intelligently about it, I'm sure they'd have been in touch with officials to make sure that provisions for extra early/late trains for the airport are put on the list of requirements for any new franchise operator?

It definitely can't take the 800 but I remember looking up other models and I think it could take many of them.

Of course once CrossRail opens the good people of Southend will have a rail link to Heathrow.
JTSB
While Stobart will no doubt have given their views on early and late trains to the franchise bidders I'm pretty sure that the DfT have not stipulated anything to that effect in their invitation for bids to run the service.
I'm not sure when the winner will be announced but not too far in the future hopefully.

Just to clarify, Crossrail does not go to Southend. You will have to go to Shenfield to pick-up the line to Heathrow/Reading.
Also an old ATP got blown partially across Aviation Way earlier due to the high winds. http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/loca...d_in_Southend/

Crossrail could prove very good for STN & SEN both with direct links LHR.

I can't see crossrail making any difference whatsoever to the people of Southend and their use of Heathrow or vice versa. Most people would still rather drive than get the train and looking at the proposed train journey it won't be much quicker after crossrail than it is now.

I have removed my post as - in view of the information posted below by AirportPlanner1 regarding fares - I was incorrect in my assumption. I had not realised they are to be based on normal "Oyster" fares. That is indeed good news - and thank you for putting me right.

Do you know what Crossrail actually is? Your post suggests not, which leads me to question how you can call it a waste of money.
For info, it is effectively a new tube line to help alleviate current overcrowding on the network and provide new links for areas of population growth. Therefore fares will reflect current Oyster levels.
It is anticipated to be at capacity shortly after opening so very much needed.
