Core, I thought LTN was dear for parking until I saw the SEN rates.

Long Stay 1 - Per day or part thereof
£20.00
Long Stay 2 - Per day or part thereof
£15.00
Long Stay 3 - Per day or part thereof
£15.00

I can see why Stobart has not put on a bus for early and late flights as it would cost them a small fortune in lost parking charges.

With the short term at £25 per day where would they pitch the price for Valet parking? Normally there is a price premium but I am thinking this is more about discount parking away from the terminal at a price below £15 per day as no one would use it if it was any higher. I would think when the terminal car parks begin to fill up Valet will then be offered.

I have just booked a week parking at SEN for just £60 in May, so i think LTNman is quoting the maxium rates for people who dont book in advance online and just turn up on the day of travel, very misleading info i would say.

If it is misleading info the info came from Southend Airport's own website and no I didn't attempt a dummy booking. Still doesn't change the fact that Valet parking would have to be below turn up and go parking as that parking is by the terminal.

I see that easyjet only have one departure today. Well at least it is safe to say that flights have bottomed out now with BE contributing just an additional 3 departures. If there is more pain to come it won't make much difference now to passenger figures for midweek in winter.

I have to say I find it a complete mystery why Southend is struggling when everyone agrees it offers the best passenger experience. OK transport links could be better early and late in the day but the standard daytime service is just fine and with a station just metres from the terminal the airport should be thriving.

I share your dismay that there is only one easyJet departure today and I find that incredible - certainly way below any day in January 2015 I would suggest. Quite why SEN is struggling to attract additional business in the current situation baffles me as much as it does you.

I'm flying to ALC on Friday so that will boost the January pax numbers . I'm not leaving my car there but I checked this morning and 13 days parking would cost me £96.75 if I booked it now. That would be the same price if I was flying in June and booked it today. While those prices look very reasonable it isn't until you start to make the booking that those figures appear so anyone just thinking of leaving their car at SEN might assume he will be paying very much more. The webpage does say that "you can make amazing savings" by booking in advance but many people might miss this as it isn't very prominent.

I have heard a couple of interesting rumours over recent days but it wouldn't be prudent to put them in the public domain at this stage. Perhaps there'll be some news by the time I return home at the end of the month.

Just as a comparison 13 days at Luton starting this Friday costs £92.99 but a June booking costs just £58.49. Seems at Luton the earlier you book the cheaper it is.

As for rumours I think Southend is due a break.

Going back to Jota and post 2131, a report in Flight says:

To support its growing regional aircraft line-up, Jota also plans to establish a Part 145 maintenance facility at its base.

Airports aren't all pax numbers, car parks and trains!

Can anyone confirm if Paul Haynes (the Head of Aviation Business Development) has left the airport, or changed role? His details have been removed as a contact on both route development websites SEN use. I did highlight this as a job advertised in post #2063 some weeks ago.

Yes, Paul Haynes left during December. I don't know if his replacement is in post yet.

We'll wait and see if they do, but we need the airline and airport to confirm it, not the government. The Transport Minister is due to visit SEN in the next couple of weeks or so.

The crucial bit is Glyn Jones' response: "We welcome the Government’s desire to retain investment in regional air connectivity at a time of downward pressure on spending. We are examining the detail of that investment with regard to operations at London Southend Airport and considering our next steps.”

Seems to me the service won't be starting anytime yet......

Was not the government subsidy purely to bring about the Carlisle route? I would think that if they don't use it they'll lose it. I stand to be corrected if wrong!

It's a bit of mis-reporting this whole story.

The development fund is not to fund a route or pay for it, from what I've seen, it is essentially a waiving of APD on the routes to help them establish …

Also, the airline has not really said anything about this, it's been Carlisle airport and I haven't seen anything from the airline to say that they are planning the service … ?

With Stobart looking to flog its airline I would think the route is now less likely to start.

The Transport Minister is due to visit SEN in the next couple of weeks or so.
Hope he doesn't come down on a Wednesday as walking through an empty terminal could give the wrong impression.

The references to Norwich and Southend in the article is because the Minister was answering a point about the Anglian region. No change, there is money available to help the selected airports and airlines which is available from this spring.

He should come along in Spring when the terminal is full of people going to/from Carlisle...

Good to see the Lanzarote, and Tenerife numbers. However Easyjet must think that people only wish to travel there during the winter, between November and April What about the rest of the year. The islands don't shut!
I live local to the airport, but have to fly from Gatwick, because flight to and from Southend aren't available for longer periods.
