EDI is lucky to have a very balanced inbound and outbound market. Indeed, the inbound market is the strongest in the U.K outside of London therefore the detrimental effects of the current economic and political climate should be less pronounced here than at other regional airports.
I agree that a Chinese link is almost a certainty and it makes absolute sense given the above that this would go to EDI.
Personally, it's DY and their plans that excite me the most - oh and perhaps a regular A350 service from one of the ME operators...

Flybe Flights announced
As predicted the Flybe flights are announced. Flight times seam reasonable (Edi based planes being used) to be able to connect to T2 flights as long as they can get agreements to check through bags...
Disappointed there only using the Q400, flight times listed as 2hrs down which seems slow!! Will these be the only Turboprops at Heathrow?

Connecting pax will not enjoy the onboard carry on capacity on the DH8.... 2 Hours is surely them being cautious?!
Will be interesting to see what BA do to them as their precious connecting pax is a whole different ball game to LCY. Point to point if the fares are reasonable might do ok, but I suspect its not this market they think it will appeal to. Not for me im afraid....

In terms of fuel efficiency I assume. E175 would have offered more comfort and quicker flights which may also be a factor. For me the main factor will be if they secure agreements with the likes of United, Air New Zealand, and other major operators out of T2 to create seamless connections, similar to what they have with Etihad out of MAN.

Feeder carriers for long haul routes get very little. Look at BMI. Some of those flights had codeshares with almost every carrier except BA and ended up being operated by E145s!
BE will need point to point passengers to make it work. On their side they have the fact that BA will be charging for food and drink which will mean onboard there won't be too much difference. BE seem to be doing ok on LCY-EDI up against BA so I imagine they can fight this fight too.

£60 to fly to an airport nowhere near the advertised destination, hidden baggage fees, a few bob actually getting down to NYC. Plus a potential return.
A total con, but it'll still sell like the old FR model of flying into the arse end of nowhere.

If this comes to fruition, Ill be interested to see what an additional 140 seats on a 'NYC' route does to the existing legacy carriers... the growth potential here I suspect is rather limited and is definitely not year round. I also wonder what the US travelling public opinion is on Norwegian in terms of this routes reliance on high summer inbound... interesting times. Given a lot of current passengers on this route are connecting, the so called secondary airports become less helpful.

I personally cannot see how this won't be a massive success. People love cheap flights, even with the extra baggage costs etc it'll still be cheaper than the American carriers. It's a win win. The business and connecting will keep the big carriers going, and the folks wanting a cheap or quick flight will take Norwegian.

Norwegian 738 MAX

That is correct.
SWF is operated by PANYNJ as per the other main NYC airports, the airport website states it is 60 miles north of NYC and is connected by train which is reached by connecting bus.
Current scheduled flight arrivals shows the E190 as the largest aircraft today other than freight and mainly east coast destinations.
Massive runway at over 11000ft, with 09 Cat 3 per airnav .
I doubt EDI-SWF can seriously be a 12 month operation but it should be fine in summer and perhaps send the aircraft somewhere else in winter.
If I was travelling to NYC at anytime between November and March, I wouldn't use it (even with the US coping better with winter weather than the UK) but I realise some will if the price is right just a shame it is not BOS & JFK or EWR.

Given the short haul market grew tired of Ryanair's City-MilesAway approach, it's odd DY are doing exactly this on long haul. It's enough of a pain to get from HHN to FRA on short haul if things go wrong, what happens in the US? Wait for next week's flight? Get a bus to EWR? Mmmmm not sure about this, it's also edge of range for the 737Max which hasn't done well against the A321 NEO.
Those headline fares are as close to lies as you can get btw, right from the 2005 MOL handbook.
It might makr United throw a refreshed B763 onto EDI in summer or even a B772 rather than 2 x B757 just to up their game.
