If you fight your way through the EDI website to find the route map, Naples Florida appears as a destination (even though the new FR and Norwegian destinations have yet to be added). I assume it's a mistake, but you never know...

Seems a bit random to be a mistake but if you click on it it takes you to book flights for Naples Italy.

Orlando is massively underserved and anyone who plugs that gap will do well, I reckon that's almost free money for whatever airline does it. I also hope for San Fransisco (though it might be Oakland for cost) and maybe Miami (Fort Lauderdale for cost) with Norwegian's dreamliners.

Its a mistake. Naples Fl doesnt offer any regular international border/immigration facilities. It currently only offers limited GA and charter services. The longest runway is barely 2000m.

Agree that it's a mistake although Naples FL and the surrounding area is stunning and well worth a visit.

Norwegian in winter 2017/18 season is adjusting Edinburgh – Oslo service, effective 29OCT17. This route will be operated by Norwegian Air International (D8), instead of Norwegian Air Shuttle (DY). Compared to winter 2016/17 season, overall service will be 4 times a week, instead of 3, while operational aircraft switches from 737-800 to 737MAX 8.

D81641 OSL1450 – 1540EDI 7M8

Are norweigan basing just one aircraft at edinburgh? So the max will be flying to EDI from the US, going to Oslo, going back to EDI and then out to the US again?.

Two required in the summer for TATL and only one required in the Winter. The second may fly European routes in the Winter.

The OSL flights change in the Winter to EDI based in between TATL runs it seems.

Obviously this D8 frame could cover another route on the other three days, but this still leaves the other winter routes which vanished for the moment.

I was taking to a JFK based Norwegian crew member a couple of days ago and she was transferring to SWF as it's less of a commute for her. She was saying that she had heard from more than one flight crew member that the company are talking about using 2 737MAX aircraft for the W17 season to FDF and PTP to operate the seasonal flights from there to the US. These routes have over the last 2 years been operated by a 737-800. Maybe one of them will be the redeployed aircraft from EDI.

A 3 x weekly CPH possibly

Well that's not hard when there's only an average of 4 cheap (below £119) seats per flight.

The article claims there were "several hundred" cheap seats available, which I assume is correct, as vague as the term 'several hundred' may be.

The fact that they go on to then say that "The marketing method, pioneered by Ryanair, has been criticised in the New York Times, which said the airline "offers a kind of bare-bones intercontinental travel that American travellers may be unused to"."

Americans are more than used to "bare bones" air travel. Their airlines practically invented this. These EDI routes are barely 500 miles longer, or less than 90 minutes of additional travel, when compared to some of the longer coast-coast domestic service which all come under the bare bones flights where refreshments, food and bags are all chargeable extras.

I suspect 'hundreds' available were across all the routes launched from all airports. Im not sure you can translate all the US passengers willing to travel mid haul on bargain basement discount dinestic routes to those who'll travel to EDI given a huge percentage of US population dont own a passport.

The new Ryanair and Norwegian routes have now been loaded into EDI's timetable and destination pages. They've deleted the Vueling flights to Orly, but still, after three years, seem unable to load the Edelweiss flights to Zurich. Nor have they updated the New Routes page.
