SWF Norwegian Ops
How can this sold as New York City, maybe New York State but if this true then maybe PWK is missing something, they should market itself as Glasgow Edinburgh Prestwick Airport it's only 55miles from Edinburgh!! I'm sure a direct bus only taking 3hrs to the City will suffice!! Is the potential to lose the US majors worth the risk?

These are all good points and it'll be interesting to see if folk can get past the distances involved. I don't see how they could lose the major US airlines though, worst is probably a cut in frequency, which isn't good either, but the business and connecting travellers will keep them going. Plenty of people both ways that are originating from or going to other places than new York or Boston areas
Heavens above, please don't give them any more ideas. "Norwegian Winnebago Leasing Inc" will be the next subsidiary company in the group, if they aren't already in serious danger of biting off more than anyone could possibly chew.

a shame to see all premium facilities for SAS removed at EDI (amongst others) including lounge access and fast track. The low cost Norwegian effect really taking hold on legacy carriers.

Many of the comments are reminiscent of comments on the LGW thread when Norwegian announced a new LGW base in early 2103, won't work, not known, unknown brand, Aer Lingus tried it failed and so on.
Edinburgh is of course a much smaller airport and catchment area, but the evidence so far with Norwegian long haul is that it grows the market off the back of a lower price, people in Scotland my flinch at the thought of 6+ hours in a 738, but this common in many areas of Europe, it will also help with connecting traffic, the Norwegian CEO claims up to 1 in 3 passenger on Norwegians US flights are connecting through Norwegians services in to LGW of which there are over 500 a week now.
The key especially with smaller aircraft is airport access costs and slots, the drive distances people will accept in the US are longer than here, most roads outside of major cities in the US are very quiet compared with, time is the question how long does it take to get from Leith to EDI airport? by car?
Norwegian are currently flying out of Milwaukee to Mexico and Jamaica as well as the French Caribbean to Boston and JFK with the 738
They will do the bucket and spades routes on the NG but with Spanish based aircraft the more passenger use the product so they will return the proof of that is at LGW where they are now number 3 behind EasyJet & BA, by years end Norwegian will have 21 787's in fleet.

I think edinburgh were planning on 13 million passengers in 2020? Looks like they'll probably reach that amount a couple of years early, they better get cracking on with the terminal expansion.

He asked
'Are they all heading for the City of Edinburgh'?
Of course there not as Edinburgh serves a far wider area than just Edinburgh and as you rightly pointed out that the passengers will be heading all over Socotlsnd.
If you read my reply it was obvious my sarcasm was led by the fact that the question was asked if 13 million passengers 'are heading for the City of Edinburgh' which of course they are not.
It's quite obvious.
