Yes it's seasonal extensions - two daily EWR continues right up until the end of October instead of the start and ORD is daily pretty much all the way through until the start of October (it was 4 weekly last year outwith July and August) so a fair sized increase.

I'm sure I may be corrected, but I think the second UA flight departs earlier next year (10.55) than the year past. I suggest this is a bad move, since it means that you must get there by 8.55, meaning that PAX must stay the previous night close to the airport. A lunchtime departure would be much more convenient. It would even allow use by the now TA-less Geordies!

And given that it will take you at least another 40 minutes to get to the airport, you will still be cutting it fine.
BTW, I see that the Wednesday flight returns on march 1st. Am I wrong in thinking that in previous years the suspension lasted longer?

Felt much more unsafe in most London than I have in almost any part of Tyneside. Of course don't let that get in the way of an agenda!
Anyway not sure how that's related. It's a pity I can't get from Newcastle to Edinburgh airport by 7am, would save me the journey to Dublin to fly to Newcastle.

The new Edinburgh Gateway station should make travel to the airport by train easier. I'd heard that the Virgin East Coast and CrossCountry trains from the south which continue north to Dundee and Aberdeen will eventually call at the Gateway station allowing a ten minute transfer by tram to the terminal. This will allow more seamless and quicker connections to Newcastle.

I certainly hope so. There would have been no point in providing 10-coach platforms otherwise. However at present not even Scotrail's Aberdeen trains call - nothing going beyond Dundee.

Yes true! We would just need the Dalmeny chord put in place after that to provide connections to EDI for those living in or travelling to Glasgow and the west of the country.

Not quite true InOban. Two late evening trains to and from Aberdeen on weekdays call at Edinburgh Gateway.

Changing the places trains call is a lot more complex than you'd think
There are timetable knock on issues from an operational point of view but the main issue is all these long term contracts which specify, in excruitating detail, exactly what each rail company can and can't do

Porrohman: can't see the North bound services, but there is one on a Sunday morning.
Heathrow Harry: the opening of Gateway was surely built into the current scotrail franchise, otherwise no trains would call! True for Virgin EC and XC, of course.

astonishing how they can interpret the contract when it suits them - but use of teh word "surely" in regard to any rail contract is ..... incorrect
"Surely" they'd put on longer trains because of extra demand in both SW and various lines in Lancs & W Riding - don't you beleive it - "not our job mate - we have a Contract"
The airline business is far far more responsive to customer numbers
