It's good to see Luton branching out further afield with new and more unusual destinations and broadening their airline base though thankfully those 'same old easyJet flights somewhere generic' continue to grow and thrive too. On the subject of easyJet, has their been any word yet on further route growth over the coming year or so beyond the Copenhagen & Lyon flights that will start in the autumn?

The Monarch 321 flights to Ovda were all with 89T MTOW aircraft with no ACTs (auxiliary center fuel tanks). Their Sharms are now with lower config, 93T aircraft that have ACTs. Depending on ambient conditions at LTN, it normally is not possible to use 93T outbound (nor is it required). For direct flights to Iraq I would have thought you would need a lower seat configuration to stand a chance of direct flights.

Mmm maybe I am doing it wrong but when you type Luton-Erbil flights in july into google and go to book them it seems all flights are operated by Atlasjet to Istanbul and then the second leg of the flight is from Istanbul to Erbil on Zagrosjet.

They seem to be bookable daily from Tomorrow onward?

New MD

Isn't that normal in business unless they are just investing and not interested in day to day running? (which AENA/AXA will be). Didn't LGW owners do the same as did STN?

I wonder if the spelling mistake was in the original press release given to Luton Today?
Mr Jones, who joined the airport in 2007, will leave to persue other opportunities.

Construction soon

Having read that the PQQ date is end of July , then the tendering for contract starts it is looking increasingly unlikely that the November start date hoped for by LTNman will be met.
Normally a minimum of six months to get things sorted , even if they had a preferred short list already in place.
My betting is on a Feb/March start

On a different note and already mentioned before what is happening with Signature and the new building???

On a positive note at least we know the funding is in place so it will happen.

As for Signature this is starting to develop into a bit of a mystery. I have yet to see the hangar doors open on their new hangar and I have a suspicion it is yet to be used. Whether there are issues with the builder or having to get services redirected out of their old hangar and fed directly and temporarily into their old terminal to allow for the old hangers to be demolished would be interesting to know.

Changing the subject again, if anyone hasn't used the M1 link road recently it is hard to take in all that is happening around its upgrade. The contractors seem to be making great progress and once finished will have a major impact on getting to and from the M1 in peak times.

Operating the AtlasJet IST service today is A320 TC-ATM, which according to various sources wears a Zagros Jet livery.

Edited to say that it no longer carries the Zagros livery.

An interesting document. Headline is an increase in pax capacity of 7.9% year-on-year, but the comparison is between flights carried out last year (including one-off charters) and flights planned this year.
So the increase in passenger numbers will probably be around the 8 - 9% mark, giving a 2014 total of 10.475 million, an all-time record beating the previous high of 10,180,734 in 2008.

Largest capacity increases are from Monarch (+181,747 +34%) and Wizzair (+469,440 +25%) with EZY adding 128,709 + 3.8%.

Top destinations by seat capacity are:
Budapest
Palma
Amsterdam
Bucharest
Tel Aviv
Dublin
Malaga
Warsaw
Glasgow
Edinburgh

Main operators by proportion of seat capacity are
EasyJet 41.3%
Wizzair 28.2%
Ryanair 13.5%
Monarch 8.6%
Thomson 4.6%

By contrast, Ryanair provides over 77% of Stansted's seat capacity!

Good to see Tel Aviv so high up as these is not a short haul route. Luton was made up to be short haul but last couple of years Tel Aviv has grown to be one of Luton top destinations.

Another 777 in at 11:30 for El Al

When you look at the Top 10 routes, it's a real interesting mix.

There's the obvious holiday routes that you'd expect to feature - Palma & Malaga, the routes which easyJet first flew from Luton & are still going strong - Glasgow, Edinburgh & Amsterdam, the Irish connection that's been a big hit for so long - Dublin, the Eastern European hubs that have grown so strongly thanks to Wizz - Warsaw, Budapest, Bucharest & Tel Aviv thanks to the concerted efforts of easyJet and El-Al.

It's a diverse range of destinations which proves that Luton offers a real choice to passengers. With routes like Faro & Paris also doing well, it will be fascinating to see how the Top 10 evolves in the coming years as more routes, airlines & frequencies are added to the network.

Tel Aviv is a short haul route. If Tel Aviv is long haul in your head, then so should Tenerife be. Tel Aviv is operated by EasyJet. EasyJet is a short haul airline. Fact. Don't go getting yourself so excited.

Who pissed in your cornflakes pamann.

Well from one rather large airlines perspective British Airways sure do consider London>Tel Aviv long haul..

Lets not p*ss off the moderator, who is in pretty mean mood at the moment and shutting down threads when, when things go off on a tagent!

But just to clarify...

BA only treat LHR-TLV as a long haul route, due to the business it brings in and has a high demand for premium traffic, so they use their long haul business and first class product on the route. It is exactly the same for the Moscow route they operate, as this generates huge amounts of premium traffic!

It is nothing to do with these being long haul routes!

BA fly to Larnaca and this is a similar flight time as Tel-Aviv, but about hour longer than Moscow, but uses the same product as their other European routes, purely down to is being a more competitive market where there is greater demand for Economy traffic and few premium seats is required.
