Area to South of runway

Luton Borough Council have two policies relating to the available area south of the runway. ENV2 and ENV3 apply.

In effect no building works-airport related-will ever take place there, unfortunately!

Is the firestation and huge ass car park behind it with the bay not considered a huge waste of room and possible potential? I realize it is not all level but parts are. The station could be moved into any one of the random crevices around the field or over by the concrete works where they seem to spend most of their time having fun with the water canons.

I agree - I wonder if they have ever considered a tunnel to the existing long-term carpark tot he terminal with travelators, which would then make it a viable short-term carpark? Since the the front of the terminal and north edge of the taxi ranks are gong to be ripped up for new aprons and the terminal extension anyway, this would be an ideal opportunity to remove the need for the busses to the long-term carpark which are prone to getting caught in heavy traffic anyway...

Grrr

As for the charter announcement, no idea, just stating a 'good' rumour simply pointed out to me the reason for moving - Gatwick charges.

More detail here Easyjet announces new routes from Luton Airport to Naples, Basel and Munich | Daily News for Luton & Dunstable | News Headlines & Breaking Stories | Luton on Sunday

Are two moves from STN or just a slight reduction?

No news on the response to the RYR Scottish routes at STN but at this stage it will be hard to change the Winter timetables.

Probably will piss Monarch off re Munich & Naples, though both routes with them are seasonal from Luton

Wow, how disingenuous are you?

I hope to God you are never in an aircraft that needs the airport fire service .

If my memory serves me correctly, Easy operated Luton/Basel several years ago but eventually moved the route to Gatwick.

That's correct. I think for a time they used to fly to BSL from LTN, STN and LGW.

Does this mean that Easy are having more aircraft based at Luton?

Well easyJet did talk of a 20% increase in operations at Luton in the coming year and they are proving good to their word thus far with all these new routes. So that's five new routes now for w14 with Copenhagen & Lyon already confirmed.

Good to see Basel back at Luton. interesting that they've chosen to compete with Monarch to Naples and I see from an earlier post that Thomson are returning there next summer so a significant increase in operations to the Italian city, I wonder if there's sufficient demand to satisfy all these airlines? Munich is a great addition, hopefully over time the number of rotations each week will increase. With Monarch also operating there seasonally I wonder what this will mean for them on the route?

Are there likely to be more new routes for w14 or perhaps will we see new additions when the s15 schedule is announced?

Not at all, They have to drive to the other side of the field across taxiways etc or sometimes the entirety of the perimeter fence to an area where there is nothing but concrete works to regularly test the cannons, Makes more sense to put the station there and use the location it is in now for other means.

Basel reminds me of the Airline TEA Basel with the 737's which became EZY Switzerland didn't it?

This time last year we had no airlines flying to Naples and by next summer we will have Monarch, Thomson and easyJet all flying the route!

The speculation of easyJet shifting the capacity from Stansted could be unfounded for this Winter to fly these new routes... The airline never reduces the fleet presence in the winter months, but the schedule is always far less intensive than during the summer months and can regularly see aircraft parked up for a few hours between flights. It might just be a case of the existing fleet working harder.

As new deliveries arrive next year, these might well fill the gap.

It really is great news. 5 new routes being launched at the same time is a fantastic statement of intent & commitment by easyJet. Whilst these routes may pick up some of the slack in w14, once the s15 schedules roll around there must surely be a significant uplift in capacity as a result
