Part of the M1 juction10A link road is now closed for the next few months so a under bridge can be built. A temporary 4 lane road was opened over the weekend to get traffic to and from the M1.

It's been mentioned before but I wonder why there is no sign of Signature ripping up their old hangars to make way for their new terminal as the building is meant to open this year.

I see that today there are 13 scheduled Wizz arrivals in just 55 minutes.
In the time period between 06:50 and 07:50 there are 20 scheduled departures. Add to that any Biz jet movements Luton is one very busy airport with a departure or arrival every 2 minutes.

Thirty three movements in the hour is extremely good for Luton.
If they were ever fortunate enough to maintain that level per hour over a 17- hour period each day x 364 days a year with their average 139 passengers per flight, Luton could potentially handle 28.3 million passengers a year!
Luton would be busier than the successful operation at Chicago Midway Airport that is predominated by low cost airlines and has 4 runways!
Incidentally I am sure Luton will be on the borderline this year in handling 10 million passengers.
It's current position of being the UK's 6th busiest airport is only temporary.
If Easyjet honor their pledge to increase services from Luton by 20% next year then that should equate to the equivalent of 3 extra based aircraft.
That alone, should result in Luton surpassing the best ever year of 2008 passenger levels!

Wouldn't be surprised, as discussed earlier in the year, if Luton comfortably passes 10 million and beating 2008 record this year.
Of the major airports it looks as though Stansted and Luton could be fastest growing in the UK this year.

ZagrosJet - Luton to Erbil (Iraq) - Anyone able to substantiate
I was reading the link that "Boeing737-8" just posted and noticed down the side of that article, another link stating that ZagrosJet (a sister airline) to AtlasJet is to launch services from Erbil in Iraq to Luton.
I am however errring on the side of caution as the route is supposed to be starting next month, but the airlines website states nothing about it. But when you Google it, I can find similar articles stating the service is starting next month too!

No disrespect to "Boeing737-8" about the link he posted, but the article about the AtlasJet route to Istanbul, is no more than recycled news. The bit where the talk about the convenience of Luton, has been dug up from a previous airport press release, the route always intended to be upgraded to an A321 and do daily.

Antalya has been mentioned previously I think, but I think the airlines needs to be careful there. As they will be treading on the shoes of Monarch and Thomson.

For those who didn't follow the link above, Atlasjet's President has announced flights between Luton and Antalya next year, and that a newly-formed Atlasjet subsidiary, ZagrosJet will fly from Erbil, Northern Iraq to Luton from July 2014.

A question for you pilots
Out of interest, today at approximately 12.40 Easyjet U22367 (G-EZDC) departed Luton for Lisbon. On flying overhead and climbing over south Luton its starboard side (outer wing) was releasing a spray or vapour approximately 15ft from the wing tip end. As I have never seen such a thing before and have watched several hundred thousand departures from Luton can anyone tell me what was being released and why?
April figures have appeared on the CAA website.
Movements up 5.8%, YTD +0.4%
Pax up 10.6%, YTD +2.1%
Rolling year pax 9,808,680
The far better April figures are due to Easter falling in April this year.
Most of that increase is caused by larger aircraft operating more services (FlyBe and Aer Arann missing this year).
I would expect the May and June figures to show a greater improvement as the AtlasJet, Wizzair and Monarch increases take effect.
My prediction fwiw - 10 million rolling by July.

ZagrosJet - Luton to Erbil (Iraq)
Erbil looks quite close to Mosul where things are not good, I wonder whether this airline will actually stay in Erbil?
