All of the above will be filled in to become

New artists impression of the terminal extension with the new bus station where most buses will have to reverse out of bays.

Also the new pier and travel centre building can also be seen.

With the new glass fronted entrance and new cladding to the old terminal maybe Buster will have to stop calling it the tinimal.

From the BBC

Work on a new access road is due to begin next year.
What about the terminal but saying that the road layout has to be changed first so the bus station can be moved to allow for the terminal expansion. Maybe November 2015 for the start of the terminal building programme?

I see on the Stansted thread that Ryanair are launching flights from there to Edinburgh & Glasgow & I wonder if this might benefit Luton with easyJet perhaps taking the opportunity to close operations to Scotland from Stansted and increase frequencies to both cities from Luton instead, given both routes are highly successful already?

I think Glasgow is run with a Glasgow based aircraft whereas Edinburgh is a mixture, thus Glasgow very easy to change but Edinburgh will involve a lot more changes to schedules.
I think they are dropping Southend / Edinburgh as well so might want to keep that one at Stansted.

Grrr

You can paper over the cracks and in this case, clad over the metal, but underneath it will remain the Tinminal!

Trees look nice, will they be artificial and non-bird attracting?

Boeing 737 new aircraft order

It is interesting to note that Monarch are expected to announce the purchase of up to 30 Boeing 737 aircraft as opposed to new airbus models.

What is Pegasus' winter charter programme that they could bring to Luton or Jet 2's even?

New Biz Jet apron proposed.

A planning application was submitted in April for the removal of hangar 62. This is the Signature hangar between Hangar 125 (Gulfstream) and hangar 61 (Thomson). The demolition work includes the building used as an engine test bed. The hangar and its associated buildings plus car parks will be replaced by a new apron that will border Percival Way. A Sound barrier fence is included in the plan that will block all views from the road.

No doubt Signature are looking to replace stands 16 and 17 that the airport want back and will return aircraft to what was the back of the hangars for the first time in maybe 40 years.

The apron will roughly be the same width and length as the North West Corner

Looking at area I would say it is slightly larger than NW Corner, you could have 2 dense columns of 10+ G5/6/EMB each and room to shuffle them in/out, interesting, but what of the new facility, still not in use!

Bing maps Bing Maps - Driving Directions, Traffic and Road Conditions shows a nice aerial view of the existing hangar with three aircraft parked in a line outside what will be the new apron. I would say that there is not enough width for any aircraft to get out without other aircraft being moved first.

I wonder if there is any regret now from Signature having hangar 125 built and then selling it to Gulfstream? If they had kept it they would have had all of their operations in a single footprint and without it the total new apron space would have been quite sizable.

The new Signature hangar is definitely being used, Saw it open yesterday with some Aircraft parked inside it so..

That apron would be great, There is so much room wasted back there by random tatty looking buildings plopped here and there.. Hopefully overtime they can clean it all up bit by bit and get it more organized.

Is not a good part of the fields to the south if the runway within Beds still? Has a FBO never tried to build a new facility south? It would free up so many things, or are the land owners and the lack of road infrastructure make this too costly.
I know I used to cycle up there as a kid, only really corn being grown.

Everything has a price and if the landowner/farmer received sufficient reward then things could progress until sleepy Ladacan hears whispers.

The only land owned by the airport, outside the current perimeter fence is a triangle of land east of the dead-end lane used by spotters. Everything else is in Hertfordshire.
LBC would almost certainly not agree to the operator extending the estate of the airport, as their concession would be compromised.
Also, Hertfordshire, a long-time opponent of the airport, would be unlikely to agree any planning request impinging on their county.

New Bizjet apron

This is a interesting development and begs the question if this is part of the reason the FBO terminal building has not yet started.
Not sure of the physical size of Hangar 62 but could Signature not have built their new Hangar there rather than over in the Cargo Area ensuring all the handling was kept close together.
Surely it would have clicked that tugging A/C from one side of the Airport to the other in a ever growing busier Airport environment is not ideal

Noticed that the target date for the Application is only two weeks away so maybe we won't have long to find out.

Yes it is, actually it is part of Luton as well as Bedfordshire. Many people here think the airport boundary marks the county border. If you use the south stands as a size comparison there is a massive amount of Luton land that could still be used for the airport that Hertfordshire has no control over. All this land is flat and level with the runway. The issue is that the airport have stated that they will remain inside their boundary and an access road would also be a problem plus no doubt getting utilities to there.
