M1 J11a to the A5 is now open, this is going to change all the traffic flow in the area, in particular traffic that used to leave at 9 will now skip up to 11a to miss Dunstable. Should make J10 even more fun.

The exit barriers by the multi storey, what are they for? I am guessing to pay the drop-off charge?

On 24 May, it seems Neos will operate a day trip from Malpensa to Luton
A fare of 1,000 euros suggests their IT sysyems force the flight to be visible on a public website but Neos really don't want Joe Bloggs off the street to make a booking - ie this is some sort of charter flight

Anyone know who or why the flight is being chartered ?

Think I might have seen them in the past within Thomson's hangar.

This could be a positioner for a charter to Stockholm for Man United (southern England branch) supporters on the same day but have no definite knowledge. Neos have done football charters from Luton in the past.

Airport master plan quote

The flow of traffic around the Central Terminal Area also needs to be improved. LLAOL is preparing works that will provide significant improvement to the movement and flow of traffic around this area.
So after £14.5 million was spent on the new road network including a dual carriageway and a direct route to the single lane drop off zone, so avoiding the CTA roundabout, we end up with this at 6am on a Monday in the middle of May and with still 2 months to go for the peak travel period. This is also the road that has been designed to handle 18 million passengers.

The final missing section section of drop off zone will be open for the bank holiday weekend so we can look forward to an extra pedestrian crossing.

The question needs to be asked how did the airport get it so wrong? Was traffic management experts brought in to design the layout or was there money to be saved by getting the airport trainee to come up with a design.

The airport management will be reeling over this complete cock up and to date the complete waste of money that has been thrown at this project that has achieved nothing.

Tried a reservation via the Signature Elite Class website. Initial passenger £475 and then £120 per each additional passenger, that's the departure rate.

Just go to Google maps https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.87....3750277,14.5z. To the left of the search box there are 3 horizontal lines. Click on those lines to bring up the menu and then click on traffic.

LTNman,

That's a superb facility and it looks pretty accurate (now no queues!).
How do they do it - satellites?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Traffic

Google Traffic works by analyzing the GPS-determined locations transmitted to Google by a large number of mobile phone users. By calculating the speed of users along a length of road, Google is able to generate a live traffic map.[2]
The reports are updated every minute but while my ipad auto updates the PC has to be refreshed manually.
The only error is that they don't show traffic parallel to the drop off zone but only to the now restricted CTA roundabout which will always show as free flowing as passengers now follow a different route.

Here's one to discuss

Ever wonder what was the real reason the terminal extension was delayed? Every wondered why it's over budget?

As you can see there are massive steel supports "holding up" the terminal extension site.

This was never part of the plan, when they started drilling the foundations for the the extension all them months ago they found small cracks in the roof of the undercroft under the site. They rushed and surveyed the whole site and found that all the heavy machinery was putting to much pressure on the undercroft so they had to rush in to erect all these massive supports in case the site just collapsed with all the weight on it, unbelievable that this was first overlooked, classic luton I guess.

Well that's what come out of the rumour mill anyway, what do you all think?

Don't know what to think. The photo above is taken from the service road that used to sit under the original taxi rank. The new build extends further out than the original excavation but there is a row of inner columns that sit close to the edge of the service road but not over it. I would not have thought the roof of the service road is supporting any of the weight of the terminal extension apart from the floor

What is more of a concern is that the final infill of the bus station still hasn't been started yet some 17 months after the buses moved out. I am thinking that the terminal is now way behind schedule but then it doesn't matter as the airports capacity won't actually increase even if it was finished as the new road network will remain the weak link. I doubt the CTA can actually handle any more traffic than it did last year so the CTA will set the airports capacity and not the terminal and the number of stands.

Typical day I guess with 33 aircraft night stopped. With the first Wizz scheduled to arrive at 6:55 the departures are as follows.

7 aircraft scheduled to leave at 6:00
22 departures between 6:00 and 7:00
40 departures between 6:00 and 8:00
53 departures between 6:00 and 9:00

26 arrivals between 6:00 and 9:00 including 1 cargo.

Total movements over 3 hours is 79 aircraft plus unknown number of biz jets.
or 1 movement every 2.27 minutes plus biz jets.

(edit) 4 biz jet movements noted between 6:00 and 06:30 when I stopped looking taking the total to 83. It is safe to say that this will increase the movement rate to 1 flight every 2 minutes with other biz jet movements not noted.

Transavia Orly flights now finish 5th June- Sept/Oct flights now disappeared
Last Kiss flights today.
Noticed this morning that three EZY flights came off stands and waited on the south stands and run up bay before departure.Cant help thinking that LTN needs more concrete down for holding areas - the extension to the 08 taxiway end will help offering two intersections when finished though!

A321s

Someone asked about stands being marked up to accommodate A321s a while back and why.
EZY have now changed their aircraft order. They will take delivery of A320 neos that are nearly ready, but the other 30 on order have now been changed to 321 neos, thus increasing seating capacity by nearly a third. 235 seats instead of the current 180ish.

Remote holding after leaving the stand isn't only about stand availability. It frees up resource to go elsewhere and I think allows on time departure to be claimed.
