Trust me the dual carriageway is not finished so the cones will be out in the days to come. I would think the contractor was under pressure to open the road so that is what they have done without it being completed. As I said before there is still a good week of work left.
I am also thinking the inbound route though the tunnel will have its surface lifted in the days to come as the road there is in a shocking state. The new outbound route has been given double red lines while the inbound route through the tunnel hasn't which is another reason why I think the surface will be replaced

Traffic flows this morning are the best they have been for a long time. Mainly free flowing with very occasional slow and stationary traffic to the Ibis roundabou at around 5.30.
The complete picture will not be seen for a few more weeks yet until the summer holidays. By that time the drop off zone will be its full length and will go back to four pedestrian crossing points as that will set the traffic flow rate for the CTA every time the queue extends onto the ring road.

LLA Taxiway Alpha
Thank you cj241101 for these pictures they really help me understand the construction of the pillars, just need to ascertain the deck construction,I would have assume either reinforced or pre-stressed concrete slabs were used.

Might be worthwhile posting your request on the Luton Nostalgia page as well.

LLA Taxiway Alpha
unstirred Follow the Buster link and advice and I will add a couple of photos if you ask there.
The photos above is a reminder of what we can expect, but on a narrower scale, when the mass transit system is dug out under Aplha and then across the CTA to what is now the drop off zone to a semi underground station. Also the tunnel will be dug out under Alpha in two halves, as it was originally, as the taxiway will be moved and then put back, as the tunnel continues into the CTA.
I would have thought that once dug out and with the soil transported to the airports soil dumping ground by the run up bay the airport will finally have enough soil if they ever wanted to put a taxiway in to the very end of the runway. That is assuming that the soil is not needed for the rail link further down but I think more soil is being dug out than will be needed for embankments.

The one and only weekly Thomas Cook flights starts today. I wonder why one flight survived while the rest of the small programme disappeared before it had started? I said at its time of launch that the Luton programme was ripe for consolidation and alas that is what has happened.
Thomas Cook holidays are still bookable via Luton using Thomson Airways and Easyjet.

In that press release...
"The transformation plans will increase annual capacity at LLA by 50 per cent to 18 million passengers by 2020."
WTF?!
I thought 2018 was the date, is the expansion being dragged out by a further two years?!

It was originally 2026 and was brought forward to 2020 a year or so ago.
2018 will see the terminal finished but phase 3 which is the extension to the 26 taxiway and the extra stands by the former flying club are dated for completion for 2020.

Oh dear....With Paris quoted as 10th busiest LTN route & + 19% in the 1st Quarter what went wrong for TVF?...Obviously a tentative toe & all that which has not worked.I seem to recall with the original announcement there was a lot of chatter on these boards that it could well be the first of at least a few other routes from them...A bit of a blow for LTN to lose another airline client...

The airport have been making a song and dance about the first anniversary of the Orly service today with prizes to be won.
They were completing with Easyjet so all is not lost on the Paris route

Transavia
While it might not be a major loss, loosing a route to Paris Orly with easyJet flying to Paris CDG also...
I think the great shame is, is that we are loosing a major carrier like Transavia that is linked to the Air France/KLM group.
It sends a message to them that Luton is not really a viable airport for them, and writes off them probably returning or starting any new routes. If they choose to look at London again in the future, it'll probably be another one of the airports.
Any other airlines looking to come to Luton, could look at Transavia and a reason not to come to Luton... Especially when airlines might have to compete against the likes of Wizz Air and easyJet, if they want to look at starting a similar route.
