its the only US flight in late afternoon. All the other flights go early (before noon I believe) so too expensive to keep the US Immigration open for a single service as would mean an extra shift of staff for one flight.

DUB connection
"its the only US flight in late afternoon. All the other flights go early (before noon I believe) so too expensive to keep the US Immigration open for a single service as would mean an extra shift of staff for one flight. "
Close, but not exactly right. There are many US departures after midday, but yes, the majority, including all DL, CO, US and AA flights are before noon. EI have departures to BOS, ORD, JFK and IAD later in the day, but the 109 to JFK is the last US flight of the day and doesnt have the benefit of US pre-clearance.
Therefore, it may be difficult to catch the earlier EI105 from LGW, without an overnight! The BOS, ORD, IAD and MCO are all doable on EI as are the PHL, EWR and ATL on DL, US, CO, although IAD, SFO and MCO flights dont use US pre-clearance either due to issues at those airports and congestion at Pier B in DUB, which is where the US CPB is located.
When Terminal 2 is open at DUB, all these issues will be over with, as it will feature and extensive US immigration and Customs facility.

I was at the airport recently and was surprised to see that both EI133 to Boston and EI119 to Washington departed from Pier D meaning they couldn't have made use of pre-clearance. They both departed around noon.

I was there today (10th) (last visit 10 years ago)
all flights went from old pier, except for the afternoon New York flight which went from the new D pier.
I am very impressed with the new terminal work, but I cannot get my head around why pier D wraps around the old terminal, is it a listed building ?
Seems an incredible distant to walk, especially for old folk. The new terminal looks smart. Where is the new runway going ?

Yes, the original 1940 terminal, designed by Desmond Fitzgerald (brother of the former Taoiseach) is protected.
It is quite a walk, but there are travelators.
The new runway has (reportedly) been delayed, but when it is finally built (expected to be finished about 10 years from now, delayed from 2014), it will be parallel to the current main runway, starting from where the now-closed 11/29 is.

Like Callbell said, not all flights preclear-
EI121/147/119 and 109 dont preclear, and EI133 goes via SNN, so pre-clears there. All of CO and DL's flights pre-clear, and AA and US dont!
CBP in DUB didnt allow EI's new flights (MCO, IAD and SFO) pre-clear because the area is to small to handle all of the extra flights!

SR Tech Dublin
With the announcement that SR Tech is to close it's Dublin operation, with the loss of 1135 jobs, does anyone know or have a rough idea of how many SR Tech employees (ex- TEAM Aer Lingus) held onto their origianl "Letters of Comfort" from when EI sold the operation to FLS? The majority of the then 1,500 employees opted to "sell back" their letters proior to the original sale.
If it's a significant number, could that impact on EIs finances?

Nobody working for SR Technics in Dublin today has a "Letter of Comfort". Any financial responsibility/committment that Aer Lingus had to former TEAM or "Aer Lingus Maintenance & Engineering" employees was dealt with when TEAM was sold to FLS.
SRT people working directly in Dublin line maintenance should keep their jobs (but SRT want to transfer them to another company).
There will be a bit of a glut of experienced aerospace workers looking for employment in Dublin for the forseeable future...

Anyone any idea when the new tenerife flights are going to be on sale from Belfast. Also I was wondering what are they going to drop or reduce to enable the new route. Perhaps Faro as its only seasonal, but what happens next summer, when it starts up again? Or is it not going to be like Lanzarote and not operate all year?
thanks

Really hope it is, because the home market's going to become (or is already) difficult.
Heard that BA is dropping three more short hauls over the coming Winter, so EI could take over some of those. Not quite sure how this works, i.e. between BA and BE and EI, because BA has a relationship with BE too (being a 15% shareholder).
