I tried to book you on Ryanair but there was no availability on their website either - looked like all their Paris flights are already fully booked.

As far as I am aware none of Ryanair's flights for summer 2010 are on sale yet
I'm trying to book some tickets for a trip next May but it will only allow me to book as far ahead as Mar 29th. It seems to be only Paris as I can book flights to almost any other city for those dates (and later).
I can get the flights I want at a fairly reasonable rate on AF but theres a party of eight of us and I'd like to try and give the business to EI.....
Quite a number of EI's routes are not on sale yet for Summer 2010. I'd imagine the full schedule will be gradually released over the next month or two. CDG is a slot restricted airport so perhaps EI haven't yet finalised their slots with the airport authorities.

Let's not be too hard on FutureCC; I too would like to understand why the A321 is becoming expensive to operate; one would have thought that with 212 seats, it would have among the lowest CASM costs of any aircraft?

thats going to be a kick between the legs for the anti BFS EI group...

the earliest departure for LHR is 0740? would this be too late in the morning? would probably be around 0900 before you'd get to the arrivals area of terminal 1..

If the average fare with BMI was £199, I'd be curious to know how much the average fare will work at now with Aer Lingus...

Dash 8s

Heard a rumour (from a BE pilot) that EI is apparently interested in Dash 8s; anyone heard more?

Although they certainly need a smaller type, the Dash 8s would be a surprising option - not least because RE has ATR72s (and one would expect that dealing more closely with them would be cheaper than buying a new type), but also the overhead lockers on Dash 8s have trouble in accommodating current "regulation size" hand baggage. Something along the lines of the Embraer 170-190 series would seem to be a better choice.

Anyone heard more?

(There is, incidentally, a currently unidentified order for five Dash 8-Q400s ...)

In-house Dash's might be an option, but with RE looking for investors and apparently reducing capacity on routes, perhaps taking a stake in RE and utilising their AOC to run ATR's might be idea (in a similar way to AF's setup with WX et-al).

WRT Dash's, where did all the ex-SAS 'planes end up?

The dash is an accountants wet dream of an aircraft though, it positively sips fuel compared to the airbus and boeings. Perfect for flights under 2 hours!!

Civil Service Contract

Actually tigger2k8, the silly service has actually split the contract between 3 airlines :
  • EI from BFS to LHR
  • BD from BHD to LHR
  • BE from BHD to LGW
So not quite the kick between the legs then.

Can i just throw it out there because JetBlue made me think of it. They have an all A320 fleet. EI has an all A320 family. EI are looking at smaller a/c. Now some people look at turboprops and go 'no thanks' so how about the........ EMBRAER E-190???? 100 seat capacity

Now, go ahead and shoot me down..........

Sorry, but before this becomes an accepted "fact", what evidence is there for this apart from "heard a rumour from a BE pilot"?

Aer Lingus passenger numbers up 8pc in July - Irish, Business - Independent.ie

Anybody know the break down in the short haul figures? To what extent has Gatwick improved these pax numbers? July saw U2 in G.A.A. HQ, Croker, and I suspect that may have been a factor.

despite it being shared amongst 3 airlines, to those who would like to see EI fail at BFS it will bring a tear to their eye, as they are to have a 4th LHR rotation and talking of increasing AGP and FAO frequencies.

I have to say that a 4th rotation is brave given that they are still sharing the Govt contract with airlines that have been doing it for years. I also notice that in September you can still book an BFS-LHR return with EI for £50 (even cheaper than last year). You can't get near that with BMI and yet they still fill their aircraft. Looks a lot like seat dumping to me (again). Market share is irrelevant if the yield is rubbish.

I wouldn't say BMI were filling their aircraft. Flew with then a couple of weeks ago on a Friday evening flight from BHD and there were only 30 people on it. It wasn't even the last flight of the day either.

Yes, I appreciate that doesn't quite fit "reliable source" requirements, but it isn't the first time I have heard this (and not from a BE pilot either). As I say, I doubt the Dash 8 is the right aircraft for them, but I am pretty sure that they are looking at smaller aircraft than the 320 (or 319).

I don't expect much more to happen on this until CM takes the reins.
