"I'm no apologist for Jet2, I like their product, like what they have done for LBA but am open to comments on their strategy as I just don't know. "

Why would anyone want to apologise for Jet2? We should be proud of the business they have built at LBA. Where would the airport be without PM and Co?

Just noticed this post when reading recent ones on this thread and can't resist following up.

Speedbrakes - someone was ahead of you on that idea, and they put an E3A AWACS (ie. your 707!) into LBA. Twice in a morning (either that or two of them went in - I don't have sight of the rwy to tell). I was working from home, which places it at the end of Feb looking at my diary.

I can confirm that it was louder than anything Jet2 flies - loud enough to get me up from my desk and over to the window, which Jet2 isn't

I also have to say that anyone living near LBA who thinks Jet2 is loud either hasn't been here very long or has short memories. We used to get Concorde on a regular basis - loud, beautiful and sadly missed. The AWACS had noise and some novelty value, but doesn't compare.

Looks like it's diverted to Alicante and is taking 4.5 hours to get there.

Ryanair new base?

In a Press release today Ryanair MD Micheal O'Leary announced that Leeds/Bradford Airport will be the next UK hub. In his statement Mr O'Leary Said " With All this Global Warming becuse all of these Airplanes flying around and the Ice melting in the poles, A lot of southern airports will find themselves under water so what better place to have a base than a airport on top of a hill. ", "I am looking forward to commence flights from London Yeadon soon" Press release ends.

The Chairman of Leeds Bradford Airport said "This is a good thing for the people of Yorkshire to be able to travel all over Europe to places sort of close to where they want to be"

Leeds Bradford Airport Is Top For Punctuality

From Leeds Bradford Website

21 April 2008
According to the latest punctuality statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) was the best performing airport overall in the final quarter of 2007 with the best on-time performance and the shortest average delay of the top 75 destinations surveyed.

The CAA report stated that Leeds Bradford had both the highest on-time performance at 84% and the shortest average delay of 8 minutes, amongst the top 75 destinations.

Peter Willis, Operations Director at LBIA said: “We are delighted that the airport has again been commended nationally for its punctuality records and that we continue to provide a pleasant experience for our passengers when they travel through Yorkshire’s premier Airport.”

“The hard work and commitment of our staff and our close working relationship with our airline partners enable us to continue to offer this high standard of service.”

I'm unsure how aviation does its performance stats so lets be wary of what appears to be a positive announcement.

Punctuality, I suspect, covers the tardiness of services that actually run to and from LBA. Good score, well done.

I suspect this excludes diversions (reliability). It would be interesting to see the reliability score.

I'll be pleased to be corrected if indeed the "punctuality" includes diversions though I'd be amazed if LBA top-scored there.

Either it's very quiet in the management offices, ATC, Shaheen (while it lasts), Jet2 etc etc or they're up to something

It really has gone quiet. No rumours doing the rounds or anything. At least it's busy in terms of movements.
