Not really sure why anyone would expect there to be much happening. Nationally, it's evident that few airlines have the appetite for expansion at the moment and while some of the other airport specific threads on here have plenty of traffic going through them, the content is telling. Small regional airports being sold or put up for sale & routes being cut across the board is my take on it at the moment. At LBA specifically, new heads of Marketing / Commercial Development and Finance have only just started work and while that will probably bode well for the future, it's a tough ask to expect them to have pulled rabbits out the hat so soon in an environment when the airlines are simply not expanding. I suspect that if the airport can hang on what it has than the summer should produce moderate growth. If behind the scenes the new team can begin to get the message out to the indusrty that the airport is much more commercially focussed and is making progress with the necessary infrastructure improvements then it will be hopefully well placed as and when confidence begins to return

738?
If true, anybody know if this would be the longest route served by a 737?
I know they fly A321 from MAN via turkey with apparent success, but a 737 to Pakistan, beggars belief!.

Hi
Well I can’t see Air Blue operating the ISB-LBA route either with a Boeing 737-800, As they don't currently have any in service. Even though the could lease one, But where from?
At the moment Air Blue’s aircraft fleet contains 3, Airbus A320-200's (with another 14 on order) & 3 Airbus 321-200's

Road Side Interview Surveys
from Leeds Bradford Site
7 May 2008
Leeds City Council will be conducting Road Side Interview Surveys between 12 May - 12 June 2008, in the Horsforth, Aireborough, Otley and Pool area on various roads in the vicinity of the Airport.
The surveys will include traffic counts and road side interviews and are being undertaken in order to expand the coverage of the Leeds traffic model.
This model will be used to evaluate the impact of potential highway schemes including a possible new link road for Leeds Bradford International Airport.
The road side interviews will be organised to minimise delays to traffic, however, there may be busy periods when some delays will occur. Passengers should allow additional time when travelling to/from the airport during this period.
Half term week (Monday 26 - Friday 30 May) will not be affected. Surveys will only take place on Mondays-Thursdays between 07:00-19:00.

Leeds Bradford Airport targets US flights
from leeds bradford new
07.05.08
Leeds Bradford Airport has stated its intention to expand into the American market. Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at the hub, said passenger numbers have been boosted considerably in recent years by the launch of new flights to Europe.
However, he said that future growth could come from long haul routes, including to the US, with flights to New York a priority for the airport, as this will open up a ‘range of new linkages’ across North America. Such a move would mean that ‘there is less need for people to trawl down to London to connect to flights worldwide,’ he said.

Shaheen stopping
From UK Airport News 09 May
Suzeman
The direct flights from LBA to Pakistan, only launched n January, are to be scrapped at the end of this month. Shaheen Air International blames a 'lack of aircraft availability' for the axing of the twice weekly service to Islamabad after just four months.
Shaheen Air, which was founded in December, 1993, was designated as the second national carrier of Pakistan last October. It operates 15 domestic and international routes. The Leeds Bradford - Islamabad service was served by wide-bodied Airbus A310 aircraft, with 191 economy and 19 business class seats.
The airport's website says flights to the Pakistani capital will still depart on May 8, 11, 18, 25 and 30. Any passengers booked after these dates are being advised to contact their local booking agent for refunds.
Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at the airport, said: ‘We are in discussions with airlines with a view to re-starting direct operations to Pakistan.’

US Flights
Given the current climate, I would be very surprised if a regular service to NYC were to start up within the foreseeable future.
Flyglobespan's Liverpool - NYC service failed miserably. AA's Newcastle - JFK service never even got off the ground. BA are pulling off MAN - JFK after 23 years. Even American's MAN - Chicago service is being cut back to 5 x weekly for the winter according to some on the MAN thread.
Sadly, these are not grounds for optimism although the airport is only doing its job in targetting such routes.

US Flights
A VERY long shot, I know, but If PIA do serve LBA then could this service continue across the Atlantic ? Maybe LBA are exploring this option.
BTW, what's the biggest passenger a/c type that can currently be handled by LBA? I'm old enough to remember the Wardair 747's

Once the US allows them to PIA will go non stop to the US. They have got the planes, B777-200LR's, to do this. MAN would receive terminator service when this happens. So I wouldnt expect any US stopover services at LBA

New destination "Bradford" (not Leeds).
Thats a nice touch - after years of being dominated by its larger partner Bradford gets pre-eminence from the perspective of Pakistanis - which makes sense. I'm sure Leeds mean little to Pakistanis.
A taxi driver in London told me that the Pakistanis who settle in Bradford tend to come from the north of Pakistan so Islamabad makes sense rather than Karachi.
