BKS What problem do you mean ? Doncaster is no substiute for my travel needs I might as well go to Manchester so any new destinations from Leeds (Yeadon on the Hill) are my only interest !

A300boy - I think that post falls into the "wind-up" or "not serious" category that need no response.
One for the folk who understand aircraft performance...
How plausible is a direct Islamabad service with an A310?
Earlier posters on TODA, A310 performance and my estimate of crow-flight distance to Islamabad left me thinking it wasn't possible.
I'm sure Shaheen are more expert than I but I'd be interested if anyone more informed that I could make transparent the technicalities and feasibility of an A310 making a 7+ hour flight out of LBA.

A300B4 with CF6-50 engines max take off weight 336000 lbs with around 6 hours 30 mins fuel range would have no problem off runway 14 however subject to pressure altitude and temperature restrictions on runway 32 on specific day, so restricted t/o weight = reduction of load or fuel. The A310 is smaller has another fuel tank and has I think CF6-80 engines like the A300-600 so should do better.

On a positive note, if you actually read the press release it states the config. is 19 F / 191 Y when the standard config is more like 28 F / 212 Y. I would assume that the 'missing 30 pax' equates to the weight reduction necessary to accommodate the necessary fuel load for non stop ops.

Agree that the performance will be different for two aircraft types just showing a comparison and anyway the A310 was derived from the A300 unlike your B737-B757 comparison and just for accuracy Max T/O weight for A300B4 is 363,000 not 336,000 as typo earlier so I suspect with the weight reductions as reported for the A310 the operation will be possible, one would have expected Shaheen to have done their homework.

'Direct' means you stay on the a/c from point A to point B even if it has to stop at point C to refuel. It says 'direct' not 'non stop' so it still counts if they stop off at Dubai or Baghdad or wherever for fuel.

I suspect it will be similar to the Britannia operations to Spain in the 1970s using 737-200ADVs off the 5,400 ' runway.
In those days the flights would aspire to go non-stop and in the right departure conditions they would do this.
When conditions were against them they flight plan a fuel stop en-route.

I suspect we will hear the old favourite from the tower with this flight. " Runway in use is 32, runway 14 is available if operationally required."
Mind you it may not always be full, why does everyone assume all the flights will be fully booked?

Lbia - Here To Stay
rainboe,
you are definitely one or more of the following;
1, ANTI AVIATIONIST
2, COMPETITOR AIRPORT SUPPORTER
3, EX EMPLOYEE WITH CHIP ON SHOULDER
4, LOCAL RESIDENT (anti noise/expansion)
I cannot see why someone from Hants would keep up this tirade against the LBA. Your disrespectful and incredibly uneducated comments show how ignorant you are to aviation law. Have a good read about the Brazilian disaster and then come back on here and apologize. Operations from the LBA are carried out within binding parameters that are always adhered to. If and when something does go wrong margins are in place to prevent fatality (just like at any other airport). This being England LBA is one of the safest airports in the world. Of course, humans being humans, disasters will always happen for a multitude of reasons. Remember this though : AIR TRAVEL IS THE SAFEST FORM OF TRAVEL.
In my opinion you are deliberately scaremongering on this site in the hope that your comments get picked up by jurnos etc and fed to potential passengers. Forget it. Let me assure those reading your comments that you do it from a position of ignorance. The airport and its new insightful owners will overcome the issues you love to moan about to provide a more than adequate airport for the region. Destinations continue to grow despite the plethora of competitor airports in the region.
Everyone knows your views by now so please think of some other place to have a worry / moan about because LBIA is here to stay and will give the people of Yorkshire an airport to be proud of.

Rainboe spends nearly all his pprune life attacking LBA almost as if he and the airport parted company on bad terms.
