Saw some more pilots having great fun on approach today, not as much as yesturday lol

Also, I'm rather looking forward to the visits from the little purple dash's come the summer. Newquay anyone? Or perhaps Plymouth?

Early morning arrivals from Newquay via Plymouth or vice versa, Mon-Fri 0910, Sat arrives at 0930 with sundays flight an early arrival, not very big, but more growth for Newcastle nonetheless.

Airport Masterplan

Being utterly bored I had a look at the Newcastle Airport Website and had a read of the MASTERPLAN.

It was actually very interesting, if not a little bit far fetched!

9.5 million passengers by 2016 first caught my eye! The great thing about Newcastle though is at least there is the room availible for the proposed expansions. (Section 5.0 Development Requirements.)

I sincerely hope that great things do happen for Newcastle Airport, as it's a great place to be based. However, one wonders if all thats forecast in the 'Masterplan' could ever be achived by a company that can't run a baggage system, tries half arsed messures in an attempt to skimp on costs and can't even fix a revolving door!

Temporary Stand

Just landed on the Aer Fungus. Great fun for me, but maybe not everyone. >50mph gusts. Not as bumby as expected.

What's the story with the aircraft parking across the parking stands at an angle facing the old control tower? I am assuming its because wind too strong for jet way?

Had to chuckle - I recon we got off the aircraft at approx stand 4-5. Bus drove the 200 yds and let us off. People who experienced that for the first time found it so funny

I would imagine that due to the winds hitting the Northeast today, the reason for the non standard parking is to point the aircraft into wind. MME has seen it several times over the past month or so...not sure about the bus - possibly due to the angle of the aircraft it might be to ensure passengers aren't wandering around next to the edge of the taxiway!

Wind not too bad at the mo, NCL reporting 230/22G35 so it's only a 7-12kt crosswind.

757speedbreaks....
Having been down the back on many of your landings I can only advise you try getting us down in one bit on a clear calm day before you start having a go at the cross winds and stuff lol

PS I'm only kidding, 757 is a pro!

Cheeky cow!! I should hope you are only kidding!!

Although, only flying once a month makes one a little rusty

Just got hold of the LS summer schedule. I see the PMI is daily on the 75. Lets hope it'll be moved onto the spare 73 when pax numbers dictate.

RHO is shown departing at 14:15z every Wed. but don't think it starts til June??

When we have strong winds and gales, we will park exposed aircraft in to wind. Usually the wind is south / south-westerly so we marshal aircraft to point at the old ATC building which puts them into wind.

EK in evening paper tonight

It states in the local paper tonight that EK in the first 6 mths has carried 70,000 pax and 700 tonnes of cargo well above what EK thought they would do.

It goes on to say that the plan for ncl is as follows

777 on the route daily from around 12 mths time.
x2 daily within 24 mths.

I read that too in the Newcastle Chronicle, but hasn't is been a while that a 777 would take over the route?

Ek 777

There's been speculation (quite well informed by the looks of it!), but I think this is the first time it has been stated publicly by either the airline or airport.

Would there be any performance issues with a fully loaded 777 departing RWY25?

I have located a very good reference document published by Boeing that provides some excellent performance graphs http://www.boeing.com/commercial/air...s/777rsec3.pdf
If one reviews these, then whatever the prevailing conditions at NCL one is looking at only up to 85% of MTW, & possibly less in adverse conditions off 25. Now that may be enough for 100% pax depending on sector length required.
Above is an extract of an earlier post I made that says it all as to 777performance criteria. Form your own conclusions !

Fuel stop at Teesside then like My travel A320s. Or sit there until the wind changes like the Kuwait 747F some years back!
We do Oman twice weekly down here with the DC-10 no problem at MME with high ground.

I can't imagine EK wanting to do any kind of fuel stop - was there not talk of them having something to do with runway improvements at NCL, not sure whether it was length or resurfacing? A 777 would be excellent to see at NCL, though not sure whether we could handle one on a regular basis, unless equipment on the ground was improved. I know the stand EK currently use is capableof handling a 747 sized aircraft, so that wouldnt be a problem. The benefits of extra cargo and passenger capacity would be beneficial not only for the airport but also for the NE region - could generate extra business.

Does the Monarch A330's ever have any performance issues off 25 in the summer, don't recall any, but then again A330 is very different to 777!

If EK can operate the 777-300 BHX-DXB with no problems, it won't be a problem at NCL. 777-200 would undoubtedly come first though.

Regards

Mike

Heard them on ATC last summer reqesting departure from 07 to enable them to get better performance.

Boys calm down….don’t you think UAE/EK would have not thought about operating the 777 here before announcing it will be on the route within a year!!
As for the 330 I have only seen a couple of requests for 07 and then it was not 07 or nothing, 25 would just mean putting a little more coal on the fire! I.e. a little less flex! Nothing like the problems MYT used to have with the B763 or A320!
As for the need for better/more ground equipment for the 777!?!? You put it up the air bridge and apart from a different tow bar you need nothing different to unload/load it? We never had any problem with BA’s or K8 B777.
The runway is getting re-surfaced this winter, well the inner centreline is any way, nothing to do with 777’s!
And no we have not had any UAE 777's in so far, contrary to what a few people on airlines think!
