Where are they going too find the space for a new flybe lounge?? maybe shrink the belfast lounge??
The landside lounge which looks out on to stand 3 will become airside and converted into a Flybe lounge.

DL93 I think the rumour regarding TOM leaving Swissport has been going on for a while. I think it gained momentum when contracts where being renewed following merger with FCA. I thought Swissport had retained it at NCL, but could be wrong! Having said that, if Servisair do get it NCL, they'll be a bit shocked and a bit panicy I would imagine!!!

LHR

I see BA cancelled up to now 4 out of 6 flights from LHR today to NCL due to weather at LHR. In comparison only 2 out of 7 cancelled to ABZ, 2 out of about 10 to EDI. 5 out of about 10 to GLA and 4 from about 10 to MAN.

It seems that when there are any problems at LHR the greatest proportion of domestic flights cancelled is on the NCL route. I dont think this is the first time this has happened, in fact I believe its been going on for years. Is this a deliberate policy and Do they not care about the NCL passengers? I understand Its not about low passenger loads on the NCL route In fact someone said the LF on the NCL LHR is one of the highest on the domestic network.

Could it be lack of competition

Jet 2 Cork

Anyone know why Jet 2 cancelled the Cork flight at 6.00PM this afternoon, when the winds at Cork started to subside? Other aircraft started to land at Cork from about 16.30 onwards. Especially as it seems the aircraft was not required anywhere else? Passengers offered a refund or a seat on the next available flight, which is Friday Family member has cancelled and is going to fly MME-DUB-ORK with Ryanair instead.

Also, instead of daily for the summer, there are no flights NCL-ORK Tue or Wed.

I would imagine it was becasue if the aircraft was going to be mega late it would impact the royal mail services the QC aircraft would be operating after the ORK, its about 3hours there and back with no problems, so if it lands back at night its tight to get everyone off, towed to cargo, seats off, cargo on and off to EMA/STN and with the penalty of £1k per minute delay Jet2 like to keep royal mail a priority as the mail ops alone pay for the running of the base.

MMEMAN why you say no NCL ORK on tue or thu? its daily from march 31st

"MMEMAN why you say no NCL ORK on tue or thu? its daily from march 31st"

Check the low fare finder. From April 1st UFN there are no Tue or Wed flights any more, although the timetable section has not been altered yet to reflect this.

Jet2 - Cork

Interesting we have another Jet2 reduction from NCL!! Are we seeing them gradually pulling this base.

So far they have pulled - Bergen, Valencia, LGW and Krakow. And reduced frequencies to Cork and Pisa. Quite a % drop in ops.

Reductions from NCL

The latest reduction in the J2 Cork frequency is unfortunate but I think its still greater than what was flown last summer.

Overall the summer period will see considerable reductions across the board with 3 less charter based aircraft, MYT, FJE and Finnair.
1 or 2 Less Easyjet aircraft (depending on the month ).
Less Jet 2 aircraft and routes.
EI pulling out.
RYR pulling Milan.

Of course on the more positive side there is Dubai, and extra services/frequency from FlyBe
Air Southwest, LH, and Eastern. As well as as some extra longhaul charters.

But I dont think the positives will counter the Negatives by a long way and the result could be double figure percentages drops in the monthly pax figures.

Unfortunate for NCL but with aviation fuel prices as they are I cant see a way forward.
Flybe have however indicated more expansion later.

There still seems to be expansion going on at other airports throughout the country but sadly NCL is in decline, Perhaps there was to much growth to quickly.

I have heard that there is a large shortage of seats in the IT market from NCL this Summer due to the cuts, perhaps some capacity will be restored next year.

JET2, I think they will go back to the Royal Mail Flights with maybe one or two daytime destinations with one based aircraft.

Reductions from NCL

fl dutchman makes some very valid points. Newcastle is losing business at an alarming rate and the extra flights from south west, lufthansa and flybe are not going to make a big dent in the overall figures.

EZY has lost interest in Newcastle and as far as FR is concerned the place doesn't even exist. If neither is willing to base more or any planes on Tyneside could they then at least look into sending planes over from other bases in their networks? Is the management of the airport doing anything at all to encourage this?

ncleflights, I'd be carefull saying things about Jet2 and closing base, a lot of their staff read this and it fills people with doubt, and its not nice knowing people think they know your fate before you do!
I cant see J2 pulling the base ANYTIME soon there are lots of plans for NCL but as its been said before, Jet2 are leaning away from city breaks and going after the charter market. New York WILL be operated in the winter on a package tour deal (shopping trips) to "test the water"
The reason in the reduction is that over the years J2 has had to lease in various aircraft to assist with the summer programme, they were let down by flightline and FUE last summer which cost J2 and I think they have learnt that you cannot rely on other airlines. So this year is about consolidation, operating our own aircraft, trimming down the routes that dont make as much and concentrating on routes that bring in a lot of money from both airfares and onboard sales. Personally from someone who works for the company in question I'd rather they did that and get more money behind them than carry on operating routes that dont really make much money and wasting aircraft. We all know last year the 2 757s in NCL didnt have an efficient flying programme so its good to see this year they are having all aircraft flying as much as possible with 1 737 as standby in NCL to cover any problems the fleet may come across, which should minimize any delays.

No!

However, there could be some 'juggling' around of flights. eg PMI, MJV's to get it sorted. As you know, Jet2 don't like to cancel flights, just delay them!

On a TFS, if the pax no.s are low enough, the 737 can get to TFS going direct, which is what happens at BLK.

Expect some of the weekly PMI's to be placed on the spare 73 if LF's are low.

There is a Jet2 Management 'roadshow' tomorrow (wed) and I don't expect to hear any major new news but if there is, fellow PPRUNE'ers will be first to hear, unless it's very confidential!

FL DUTCHMAN:

It seems that when there are any problems at LHR the greatest proportion of domestic flights cancelled is on the NCL route.
Surely most of BA's passengers will be conecting with Long Haul flights from LHR? They can't all be businessmen and families travelling 'dan sauf', I'd rather get the bus or train than having to go through LHR, if I was just going down there!

Your correct about loads too, BA's 757 is often full, so I'm told.

LHR

757 Speedbrakes

Try telling that to someone who has just flown in to LHR longhaul or even shorthaul who find there domestic connection to NCL cancelled. Traveling by road or rail to NCL at short notice is even more hassle than connecting at LHR. Same applies going the other way. I think most people on this service now are connecting passengers.

I do not think that PPruners are the only people who have noticed that at the slightest sign of problems (any I'm not saying the weather yesterday was slight) that BA seem to cancel flights. Having witnessed their operation in LHR and watched NCL flights, they do have a high cancellation percentage. Surely this is not good? Yesterday a flight was diverted to BHX and the crew stayed there for 2 days as per agreements. I know agreements are very hard to re-jig but surely that is ludicrous in this competitive market? It is a shame that when bad weather strikes the UK, our transport network seems to ground to a halt! I'm thinking the slightest flake of snow and wham - airports are chaos, trains are late and roads are gridlocked! Do transport networks in Scandinavia, Salzburg and similar have these problems? Come on BA, look at your domestics - they do afterall contribute to your long haul passenger figures?!

On the NCL topic, yes we have lost alot of capacity this year and I can quite believe that there is not enough seats in the charter/IT side - atleast 2 daily MYT flights lost, at least 2 daily XLA and 1 daily FJE lost, along with cuts in frequency to airports like JTR, PFO, RHO, KGS etc. The sched and low cost network is equally low (abeilt with additions as mentioned). I am sure the airport have realised and are working hard to restore flights to similar levels or so we all hope! Having said that, development at the terminal and in ground handling facilities needs to take place to install confidence in any new airlines IMHO.

Previous rumours have not come to fruitition which doesn't mean to say they won't. Off the top of my head, airlines mentioned in the past have included: LOT, CSA, Air Berlin, an unidentified Italian airline.............

BA domestics

Transwede - You are barking up the wrong tree with BA domestics - there isn't a plot to trash the route and they aren't "dissing" the North East. I've been using the LHR services twice a week for 17 years. LHR is scheduled to use approx 98% of available slots, BA has approx 46% of them. The schedule for LHR is based on good weather. If BA didn't look to use those slots, you can be sure someone else would. Commercially BA has no real choice except to use them. When the weather affects LHR the number of usable slots reduces, this will hit BA most as the biggest user. Consider the BA operation, when there is wx disruption most of the inbound longhauls will be airbourne, they have to go somewhere. Elsewhere in the UK would struggle to handle that many widebodies at the same time. (Although I have diverted into NCL on BA 747-136...) In reality the shorthaul operation is going to take most pain. As we're an island, domestic (and CDG /BRU because of Eurostar) make most sense to take the hit as there are alternative forms of transport. The competition theory doesn't work - MAN / EDI / GLA all are bigger markets which would result in alot more disruption to canx therefore it is harder to do this. The alternative would be ABZ, would you send pax on an 9 bus ride or a 5 hour bus ride? Your closest comparision should be BD at MME, but they don't have sufficient L/H to make this an issue.

One final point, the timings on the NCL route from LHR lend themselves to at least one aircraft spending the day on several NCL rotations. It just works out from the sector and turnaround times. If you wait long enough at NCL you'll see what I mean. If that plan is borrowed to cover disruption elsewhere it will impact more than 2 sectors.
