The main problem that I could see in Bergamo was that it was chronically overcrowded, at least pre-security. I'd say the check-in area is similar in size to Cork (albeit hard to tell as there are a number of walls), but the airport takes three times as many passengers.
After security, it was quite well-sized with a surprisingly good range of shops.
