They won't be able to pay for a feasibility study never mind extending the runway and terminal buildings. These are the original plans which with the current state of the economy means we'll be lucky to see any of this in our lifetime,
Typical negative attitude, actually Cork coco has paid for the study and it will be carried out. It wont be extended however until the 3 million passengers threshold is passed and when funding is allocated, it will be extended simultaneously when work begins on moving the cargo area to the current GA area. The GA area will then be moved directly West of its current location, work will also then begin on a parallel taxiway. If passenger growth then continues the option will then exist to extended the current Terminal to either the North or South which will see the Old Terminal demolished. Obviously none of this will happen for a good few years, but its good for once to see in this state that planning already exists.

Angry Rebel->Someone is paying for it. And whether that is Shannon Airport, the Irish Government or the US Government, none are blessed with cash at the moment.

In the case of the US government, I would imagine it's particularly susceptible to cuts. There is almost no negative electoral consequence from the cost saving. On the plus side, the costs involved are almost irrelevant compared to the size of the US budget.

From what I understand the CBP is performing very well in Shannon. Monies are received from each passenger which are included in the flight cost. BA operate 2 flights per day using this facility and there has been a dramatic increase in private aircraft using it over the past twelve months. Agreed the lean months are November to March with service reduction from Delta, Aer Lingus, Continental etc.

So passenger numbers down 3% for 2011.

On the plus side, if you exclude domestic routes, numbers are up 3%. So, given that there are no more domestic passengers to lose, maybe good news.

DAA passenger numbers up slightly - The Irish Times - Tue, Jan 17, 2012

I reckon about half the passengers Cork is down from peak are from the domestic routes, especially if you add Belfast to that.

Wizz Air have added a third weekly Cork-Vilnius flight on Thursdays from 5 July - 6 September.
I posted that a while back since then the route will increase to 3 weekly from 31 May - 27 September.

@840 - domestic passengers peaked at 600k so that puts in context the decline suffered and, as you have pointed out, the resilience of the remaining routes which are actually holding up.

I see there is a chance of strike action at DUB in early Feb, and I know that at this stage it is no more than a threat, nothing confirmed, but can I ask, does industrial action by Police and Fire Service at DUB have any impact in ORK? Is it the same unions, perhaps even the same employer or is ORK totally separate from the DAA?

BHX & MAN

Third daily flight on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for BHX from 2/5.

Third daily flight showing for Manchester Thursday and Sunday (not Tue?)

I am not familiar with the EI Regional base so I have not noted any other adjustments to fit these flights in.

MAN

The evening MAN-ORK-MAN seems to be operated by the Shannon
aircraft. SNN-MAN lands 17.00 out to ORK 17.30 and back to MAN
at 21.00 and out to SNN 21.25.

I suppose all will be revealed once the press release is out.

SNN appears to be getting a second based ATR, as they will have a morning departure to BHX and MAN. Im glad the MAN service will be operated that little bit earlier in the day, hopefully it will prove to be a bit more reliable. If I were to be really picky a 1900 departure would be ideal. The 1730 is jut a wee bit early, if you want to do a full day of work.

The SNN aircraft seems to be going all over the place:
AC 1 : SNN-BHX-XXX-BHX-SNN-BRS-DUB-BRS-SNN
AC 2 : SNN-MAN-SNN-EDI-SNN-MAN-ORK-MAN-SNN

Potentially BHX could be operated from ORK on an SNN based aircraft (or indeed NOC, with an outside possibility of BHD/BFS). I presume this reshuffle allows for some new/increased frequency on French routes?

It's definitely good news. It's a fair increase in capacity, considering that SNN-BRS is no longer operated by an ORK aircraft and the evening MAN-ORK is operated by a SNN aircraft. An extra 4 rotations per day into ORK can only be a good thing. On an annual basis that would be roughly an extra 100,000 seats, of course how many will be filled is another matter!

just looking at the secedule, it looks like there is a gap on Tuesday afternoon? BHX, MAN and GLA do not seem to operated on Tuesday. Perhaps a re-introduction of Laurient, or another French destination? Im sure RE used to operate to at lease 3 destinations in northern France?
