The route is seasonal and will finish at the end of August like the rest of the FR sun routes. It dosn't give a huge amount of time, I would of expected it to run until the end of Ocober.

What we need are flights in the winter, maybe not to Bergamo, but one to a major Ryanair hub like Charleroi or Hahn.
I have no idealogical pull as to private or public, but I believe that aside from sorting out the mess that is Cork Airport, it should be Government policy to run the Airports as methods to pull visitors/business travellers in, rather than aggressive profit driven units. Of course they should not be making a loss but neither should they be driving potential airlines out of the base through high costs.

Dont be sidetracked by the sympathisers for the crowd in the midwest and their We are all in it together guff with the recession. Make it your New Year 2011 resolution to chose Cork Airport first.

Jamie, Bordeaux was cut to 2 since the schedule was loaded before Christmas. Also FAO is being operated by a non Cork based plane next year which is the main reason why Bergamo is possible. Ryanair have at least 2 and possibly 3 free slots from Cork this year. I wouldn't be surprised if there's another route announcement shortly. Also a
chance of another more exotic new route by an overseas carrier though the state of the Irish economy may have set it back to 2012.

Also the free FR slots will probably be used to increase Faro as I can't see them keeping it at 2 weekly. I would expect it to be 3 weekly.

FR summer gaps
I have identified the following gaps in the schedules of the 2 Cork based Ryanair aircraft during June, July and August:
Mondays - 1 gap (early - 12:25)
Tuesdays - 1 gap (11:40 - 16:25)
Wednesdays - 1 gap (15:40 - late)
Thursdays - 1 gap (11:40 - 16:25)
Fridays - 1 gap (early - 12:25)
Saturday - 0 gaps
Sundays - 1 gap (17:15 - late)
I'm guessing something like:
New route 1 (Biarritz) - Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday
New route 2 (Ibiza) - Monday, Wednesday, Friday
-- OR --
New route 1 (Biarritz) - Tuesday, Thursday
New route 2 (Ibiza) - Monday, Friday
New route 3 (Malta) - Wednesday, Sunday

FR to IBZ wont happon this year as FR only announced it from DUB a few weeks ago and they are not going to start it from ORK to.
Hoping to have it 3 weekly is a bit much as Dublin have only got it 2 weekly.
Biarritz has a better chance of the 3 but then some people would say that area of France is over served.

At the end of the day not one of us gives a s**t was route is available, all we want is food and a family to come home too. Fair enough many people will still holiday in 2011, but thats why FR has these routes in the first place like us they want to make money and in the current climate most FR operated routes are only seasonaly viable. In my opinion the CAA just need to hold tight look after Aer Arann, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Wizz Air etc.. and where oppertunites arise to launch a route no mater how long it lasts. Overall what im saying is, not all routes out of the top of your head can be viable no mater how big the name is!. If Cork has most of its routes this time next year, its managed an excellent job, more then it has already and its a massive achievement. The Airport is only down one route on 2010, probably the toughest year yet in aviation where it lossed Cardiff & East Midlands, if you take a look at Shannon.. well i neither say more. Hopefully Aer Lingus will have a good Summer this year at Cork and will have 4 based aircraft at Cork year-round again, while Cork Airport celebrates its 60th & Aer Lingus its 75th, the year has many challenges ahead of it.
Yes we are facing a massive crisis, and that is why the Government should be making the airports as helpful/economic as possible to get airlines/new routes in here and keep airlines here. They need to sort out those clowns in the DAA who are running their little empire for their benefit and now the country's benefit.

Art Exhibition Old Terminal
Just heard that the old terminal will be cleaned up for an art exhibition which will be on in March. Heard about it on Red fm at 6:00.
Does anyone have anymore information or sources about this?
