just to clarify my school days are over, im part-time at Cork & Eirjet oh god yes i wish i was back at that desk in school instead of freezing my h*le off every night up at the airport this past week. Look im just gonna keep my trap shut about ACE.

Also guys like Ryan2000 pointed out im just wondering why Lufthansa's regional partners havent shown an intrest in ORK with the CRJ's they fly to Inverness, Bristol & Newquay for jesus sake! altough a while back Tuifly if i can remember currectly had a FRA-SNN service for about 3months in 05 from SNN but FR bumped them off. Maybe their could be somthing in a ORK-FRA service but i cant see them wanting to dilute the market as i would imagne their DUB services are highly profitable.

Kavs8 - I assume you sought permission from the EI captain before publishing his name online?

Also about the ACE diversions, this is blown way out of pre-portion we even have a new forum member that decided to think he was on the flight
Calm down there.

Look im just gonna keep my trap shut about ACE but i've never seen no heard so much sh*t from a new forum member.
Take a deep breath....

to be honest KAVS8. you're well outta line saying who or who is not the skipper on a flight. there is such a thing as professionalism here too. PPRUNE. Take a look up at the banner line of the website that you so love to belt out the look of your own words. you work at the airport? great! delighted for ya! but I'm sure the pilot in question who is a very 'PROFESSIONAL PILOT' - even if it was him - isn't gonna be so delighted that his name is knocked around a website without his knowledge. You're a disgrace to yourself and your colleagues in ORK for mentioning names. Now! Subject closed!

Diversions

Nice line on RTE weather updates, Bono and The Edge were on the 2.30pm Cork to Dublin train yesterday after their flight to Dublin was diverted to Cork. See 7.30 post.

Ye got a few diversions. A trojan achievement, pat yourselves on the back. I'm sure Jack Lynch is turning in his grave

Not sure if you're a passenger or a crew member but did you suggest booking into a City Hotel? Can't comment on the delay in retrieving your baggage as I don't know the reason. In general the spin that Cork can't cope with diversions often promoted from sources within the airport will no longer sound credible after yesterday.

Shannon will remain the number one alternate but Cork is now a close second. Belfast no longer seems to be used as much although it is the closest of all to Dublin.

Cork Airport has again proved itself to be a credible alternate for diversions today due to the fresh snow in Dublin this morning and has received three EI and about five FR diversions from Dublin and to add a pinch a spice to the pot another diversion in the shape of a Jet 4 You 737.

There has been a bit of cop on too by the CAA in front of the terminal building in the last few days with the drop off and hangers on not being allowed to park up their cars for ages in front of the terminal. That space has more appropriately been kept for the coaches ordered to transport the Dublin bound passengers to the nation's capital along the M8 motorway.

Cork Airport has had to shake herself up and has had to mature fairly quickly in the last few days. It has been about time too.

No resting on laurels now either. Good job though by all concerned at Cork Airport.

More Dublin Diversions

Cork has had several diversions from Dublin again this evening. It is now deemed full. Strangely there are no aircraft parked on 25/07 or in front of the old terminal. This is a total reversal of what happened on Monday night when a lot more aircraft were allowed in.

Does anyone know who decides when Cork airport is full? Is it the IAA, the Cork OCC or Servisair?

Presumably space has to be left for the standard arrivals from Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Heathrow and Lanzarote. It's fine if Dublin reopens at 11pm as promised, but you can't have Cork-bound flights getting diverted because Dublin-bound ones are occupying the ramp space.

Diversions

The question here is why 25/07 wasn't open for parking as that would have allowed Cork handle far more diversions. I know there are several beauracratic procedures that have to be gone through but there was no problem with these on Monday. Although Cork gained massively as a result the fact that Shannon was unable to handle diversions was also a major contributor to the chaos in Dublin. Any future snow plan should ensure that Cork and Shannon are adequately equiped to handle the maximum possible number of diversions whenever Dublin closes.

According to Ryanair and RTE news @ 1 both Cork and Shannon have run out of de-icing fluid I presume for diverted aircraft and over 30 flights are going to be canceled in Dublin today because of it.

Cork likes to pride itself in being a centre of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry - would it be all that difficult for the collective genius of some Cork chemists to come up with suitable and safe compound for some de-icer to be made up for use at nations's airports?

Wait, now, and we will hear next that it will be coming in by ship in the new year or some ol' twaddle like that!

Dublin airport closed for an hour - light aircraft blocking runway or taxiway.

I see Aer Lingus's MAD-DUB, LHR-DUB on their way to Cork.
Also Aer Lingus ALC - BFS heading for Cork, must be snowing up North...

As a matter of interest guys do ye know why no flights diverted to NOC when problems arose at cork and dublin with regards de-icing? Im sure they could have taken a few aircraft in today at various stages which would have avoided the following cancellations in dublin??

Generally boils down to NOC being a very small airport! It would only be able to take 2 or 3 diversions without taking up space for its own regular flights. It might not have a massive supply of de-icing fluid. May not be able to aquire buses within a reasonable timeframe. Also Aer Lingus have ground staff at BFS SNN and ORK..
