If that happens, expect Ryanair to come onto the route. Then we'll have the bloodfest and then we'll see Jet2 stick to what they appear to be doing quite well at the moment which is targetting routes in conjunction with Jet2holidays. Then Ryanair will quit the route, so net effect will be zero over the space of a couple of years.

EMA and Leeds both seem to have had a few false starts over the years. EMA has mainly been served by British Midland/bmi Regional/bmiBaby (although FR did fleetingly serve EMA too). Leeds has seen bmi Regional and Aer Arann come and go. The big neighboring airports of BHX and MAN seem to draw more passengers, with RE struggling to fill the ATR from Leeds, against (at the time) the clapped out old 737s from the Baby, over the Pennines at MAN.
It would be nice to see the likes of LBA, EMA back, and the introduction of EWR/JFK. More likely to see a winter/ski destination, I would have thought.

I just got an e-mail from EI telling me my tueaday flight to MAN has been cancelled, I was wondering what route had ben increased instead. Looks like the additional FR flights this summer to the sun-spots are not really hurting EI much at Cork. Shame they could not have gotten Regional or a DUB-based crew to operate the MAN and BHX daily though.
ORK-GWY-BFS seems like a bit of a roundabout way, but it still beats the train or road options. By the time you get to Belfast, you would just about be around Dublin. if the fares are good, it could do well, I think RE have dropped frequencies on the BHD.

Does anyone know why the Amsterdam and London departures have been pushed out to 8:30 and 8:40 respectively this morning?
The IAA has no restrictions over Cork at the moment and by sending them out that late, there is a risk that the return flight won't make it back before the expected closure later on.

I can answer my own question now.
Apparently the A320s that were on the ground overnight were "contaminated with volcanic dust". So, the Heathrow and Amsterdam flights were waiting for replacement aircraft to be flown down from Dublin. Meanwhile, the Malaga and Faro were cancelled as a result.
All that meant that when those two did arrive down from Dublin and the Gatwick flight had come in that there were seven Aer Lingus A320s on the apron. If only that was a more regular sight!
What I don't get is why whatever dust fell knocked out the Aer Lingus A320s, but Ryanair were able to use their 737 to fly to Dublin. Any ideas?

Certainly Halifax (!) and Washington "out there". I agree that Prague and EMA are missing, Bratislava would be well covered by VIE and one baltic route, ideally Riga with airBaltic would probably cover that region well, perhaps this is the thinking behind Helsinki? TBH and route into Scandinavia would be great.
The Spanish Islands are well served by charters in the summer, I assume they are not on there because of this. Although there is an argument that charter is not quite the same as scheduled service.
I assume that the airport feel that the London region is pretty well served from Cork at the minute. Any additional seats would put even more pressure on the LHR service, which is downsized this summer.

You would be shocked at the number of people who are connecting to Basel on flights to Heathrow and Amsterdam. By most measures, you'd think Zurich would be the Swiss destination on that list, but I guess it's something to do with the concentration of pharmaceutical firms around both Cork and Basel.

You could just imagine it - easyJet start a Basel Cork service and two minutes later Ducksie be in on the act! No wonder Cork has to aim it's arrow at the likes Belfast via Galway! Still, it is better than nothing.
For what it is worth I have some extraordinary photos from yesterday of the drama above at Cork with EI & FR aeroplanes all over the place on the ramps and on runway 25. Would love to share them but have absolutely no idea on how to post them on here.
Oh, well.
The Route Shop. Ha, ha that is a good one. That gives me the sort of chuckle that wants me to open a bag of Taytos!
God loves a Trier or should that be tryer!

Once you've uploaded them, copy the direct URL. Then to post them just use the image tags or click 'Insert Image'(the postcard/mountain icon) and paste the direct URL into that, and click OK.

You'd generally fly a lot lower to Dublin (maybe the FL150 - FL190 range. never above FL245) than to say, Gatwick, which was FL360 when i flew back last week

Quite a few of the routes are already for sale but no sign of BCN yet; hope that it's not for the chop.
Not available -v- Winter 09/10: BCN, BHX, FCO, GVA, MAN, SXF-(Suspended)
Just wondering if FAO will now be year-round due to SNN - FR suspension?
