The Dublin Bournemouth was announced as a closure for winter some weeks ago when Ryanair was announcing major winter cut backs at Dublin airport. I personally think that here we are again, a route that would be much better suited to a smaller aircraft at a higher frequency. I believe the route is being axed because it is not especially profitable in the winter, simple as that.
The sad matter is here, that in the recession, it is difficult for smaller regional airport to replace lost business or attract new operators.

Durham Tees Valley
Blackpool
Doncaster Sheffield (to a lesser extent in that Easyjet have come along)
Humberside
Manston
Is BOU a credible substitute for SOU airport? or how close together are they? Would an airline such as BE be able to transfer all SOU Operations to BOU and maintain numbers? SOU has short runway that could not accomodate 737s- is this true or false?
