Possible new route to Malta.
FR have had a press conference in Malta about possible base plans and BOH was listed as a 'possible' destination. So fingers crossed we may get it. This info was gleaned from the Ryanair thread in this section of the forums.

Not strictly a BOH issue, but an excellent report by Anna for those that like stats....

Was looking at booking flights up to Prestwick and from 15th July it is coming up as no flights available from then onwards, whereas last week they were available. Have RYR decided to pull the PIK-BOH?

Yep, Looks as though the PIK flights are going from the middle of July. FR don't seem to know how to make routes work any more. When this route started it was so popular that the load factor was 97% throughout the year. It needed to have a decent flight time, somewhere between noon and 5p.m. for it to work. Edinburgh is the same, but I guess FR are planning to shut PIK now that they've got a base at EDI. PIK suffered a lot in the last 12 months from cutbacks by FR.
FR's big mistake was to leave the door open for British European to morph into Flybe and swamp the market just 30 minutes up the road. Now add to that FR's low public opinion and they're in trouble. I know so many people who are now travelling up to Gatwick to fly U2 instead. It's crazy when you can fly the same route from BOH with FR, but they have a bad impression of FR and that's what determines where they fly from. FR need to get this under control soon.

Dont jump to conclusions, expect a schedule reduction, not a route cancellation. Especially when all those fair skinned Scots have a chance to visit the golden beaches in August...
I would expect a few rotations to go, and another review later in the year..
We already know that RYR are planning some announcements on bases and routes in July.
BOH has a strong leisure route bias, with not enough demand for the business trunks to fill several B738 flights a day.
My guess is the addition of Malta, Rome, TFS somewhere in Germany and perhaps even Venice..
Maybe even 3 or 4 Belfast flights each week.

To keep those interested informed, the metalwork frame of the terminal extension is coming on.
Three small spans, (imagine a warehouse going up) have been completed at the rear/airside of the present terminal building and the large span, which will eventually be the centrepiece/ new entrance, has been started. This has been started from the airside will be built 'forward' to landside just in time for the next temporary entrance to open before the current temporary entrance is closed and removed.
I've heard a rumour, and this is the place for them that the next temporary entrance will open for the weekend.
To those not interested please do not read the above.

Fences and bunds...
Question from a Dutchman who has never been at Bournemouth before:
Is it still possible to photograph aircraft rolling over the taxiway adjacent to Parley Lane/B3073? Or do you need a large stepladder nowadays?
Many thanks for all replies!

When they extended the apron they dumped the excavated earth alongside Parley Lane to try to stop car drivers rubber necking. However the bank does not extend all the way.
Alternatively you can see over the top of the bank from the new site of the Bournemouth Aviation Museum next to the entrance to Adventure Wonderland.

And you can see Adveture Wonderland and its carpark just below the centre of the red line. The car park (the light coloured parallel lines) is where the Bournemouth Aviation Museum is now situated where you can see over the top of the mound.

Yes, everyday progress is being made and will be till its finished.
They've just opened the 'interim' entrance and are now removing the 'temporary' entrance so that the main bit can be built forward.
This is the "rapid" build stage, whereby a lot happens in a short space of time. Then it'll seem to go slow again as work goes on behind the scenes, just like before the steelwork went up.

The 4 empty morning slots left by the dropping of PIK from BOH have now been filled by the BOH plane operating the daily EDI flight on those days. This means that there will be no new route in these slots and now EDI has 4 empty evening slots when their plane used to operate BOH.
Good news about the progress with the terminal. I'm looking forward to flying through BOH in July when I'll try and get some pics.
