The only cloud on the horizon is that bloody 747 that keeps knocking out the newly laid tarmac on the runway, caused mayhem today (twice!!), still am sure the money we are making from the owners covers the cost of a resurfacing job every year at this rate, unless if effects the smooth operations of ryr, thomsk etc...

CAT III will be fully operational for early February 09 and is still on track to meet that target.
Depending on the result of the Spurs-Man U game , the 26 ILS might be in service before Christmas!

Ryanair's new service to Edinburgh attracted 9,063 pax in November - services started 5th Nov 08.
Load factor averaged 53% which is not bad for a route which has gone from zero to double daily B737-800 services. Indications are that December is much improved in terms of load factor.
Nearby Southampton saw a 10% reduction in passengers to Edinburgh

very strong sales on the BOH EDI am sector and EDI BOH pm sector - indicating traffic originating from the south. However, some very weak loads on the EDI BOH am and BOH EDI pm - as low as 9 PAX.

..do also bear in mind that the pm BOH-EDI is really rather late which might be putting off some people.
If you have to travel for business to EDI from the south the night before, you're unlikely to take such a late flight (assuming the purpose of travelling the prior day is to achieve an early start the next day)...similarly if you're on a day trip down from EDI, there is a long time to wait from the end of the business day until the flight goes.

Change of Heart
Had also heard that the deal with Flyglobespan was no longer and Jet2 will supply aircraft and flight deck and Palmair the cabin crew when new deal starts, as in previous deals with European.

Good to see such a big increase in passenger numbers especially in November
The top performing routes in November were
Edinburgh !! 9052
Prestwick 8629
Gerona 7009
Dublin 6285
Murcia 4163
Tenerife 3656
Alicante 3618
Bergamo and Beauvais also got off to a reasonable start as well
Also heard that Jet 2 will be operating a based aircraft now for Palmair

I flew through Bournemouth last weekend to Edinburgh, and the flight was 100% full both directions which was very pleasing to see. Also the 'temporary' buildings that have been erected (gate 1 to 4 holding area and duty free) are actually quite impressive - the area has expanded a great deal.
Its exciting to see the development at the airport - i really hope 2009 brings extra aircraft and passengers for the airport.

Yes i agree finally we will have an airport to be really proud of once all the improvements are in place and an impressive terminal to go with it
Would be good to see Blue Islands operating some new routes from Bournemouth this year , they have been really consistent and loyal here for many years now .... Manchester route twice a day would be a good start
Also Egypt would be a good new holiday route to re start again, i know Bath Travel tried it a few years ago to Luxor and was a success but they were using Astraeus 737 700 which the following year stopped , as did Banjul with Gambia Experience again with good loads but using Astraeus
Good to see 2 Thomsonfly 767 in tomorrow , in and out bound to Barbados with cruise passengers which has really taken off over the last 10 years
Is there any chance of some one posting some photos of the on going developments to see ..... thanks

BOH Progress??
Totally agree with you, as an ex-employee I would also like to see some pic's of what is going on?? Can anyone tell me what stage the apron has reached now, has it increased & got it's extra stands yet, handling two 767's in & out hopefully not at the same time?? Might be a bit of a squeeze with the based a/c and not only outside, might be a bit cozy in arrivals aswell!!

mudcity - mod flights?
markeyd - i think the luxor flights were operated by a Monarch 757, and they sold out so quickly they added another and one was operated by an A300?
thaimike - new apron area from what i last saw (31st dec) was basically most of it laid out (concrete with light beige colour) but the joins to the existing apron not yet complete (the borders i guess, markings not yet showing).
I have a couple of questions for others in the know:
1) why is the 'east apron' being extended? If you look at the master plan it called for the east apron by the control tower and new cargo stands off the taxiway to be developed - not where the development seems to be actually taking place.
2) will new lighting be erected? they have 4 tall light poles, will more be needed?
Thanks

Bath Travel did one of their special trips to Luxor, that as Ryanair1, stated did very well. Then a few years later Palmair offered it as a winter destination over a 2 or 3 month period. I think it was the same winter that Palmair offered Paphos also using the 737-700.
Looks as though FR have gone back to a single rotation to PIK from 7th January. PIK loads have suffered a little since EDI was introduced. EDI not doing too well either. 50% LF's are not enough.
Ryanair1 - Have you got any news about any more aircraft for BOH? I'm really hoping for Rome and Venice as new FR destinations

New concrete east apron is nearly complete, joined on it's western edge to the existing taxiway, not yet joined on it's southern edge to the existing apron, in any case concrete has to cure for around a month before it can be used.
Work has started in terminal, though not a lot visible unless you go in there as the whole site is surrounded by high solid fence.
there is also work on the southern end of the west apron to extend stands there, presumably to take 737 size aircraft.
Don't know about lighting masts but various work underway to complete cat 3 installation including new lights in runway/taxiway etc.

Good to see Monarch A330 in this morning a busy ramp with Ryanair , Jet2 and Thomsonfly
I think the flight was planned via Gander off runway 08 this am but Flight Tracker and other Tracker web sites are showing the flight as non stop which is impressive !
