Our from Gdańsk to Bristol and Liverpool Katowice to Bristol; Łódź to Liverpool, Shannoni, East Midlands; Poznań to East Midlands; Szczecin to Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool and Luton; and Wrocław to Bournemouth are cancelled from end March 09. This is due to an increase in Polish navigational fees and charges. These fees and charges may mean we delay considering Warsaw or Krakow from BOH - still in process of evaluating. If you work in an airline you'll understand how fast things have to change.

How can we accept these costs and continue to offer low fares? These airports are idiots. As our own spokesman reminded a press conference out there

I note that the absence of London-based routes in the cancellation list. It could be that some of the routes from regional airports in the UK to regional airports in Poland may simply be less economically viabile compared to 2 years ago, following the decrease of the Polish community in the UK over the last 6 months. A number of LCC airlines over-expanded in Poland in the last few years and they may now have to address their previous over-enthusiasm.

Are you able to provide a comparison of the new navigational fees and charges in Poland against those in other major European countries, such as Italy ?

Airport expansion is set for Spring finish

Airport expansion is set for Spring finish
10:00pm Tuesday 27th January 2009
By Katie Clark

THE multi-million-pound expansion of Bournemouth Airport is reported to be on track and within budget, with some phases of the work due to completed in March.

The £45million redevelopment project was boosted by an extra £13million cash injection from owners Manchester Airport group last year, putting the project back on track after several months of delays.

Work at the airport at Hurn was postponed when the New Forest National Park Authority applied to the High Court for a judicial review of Christchurch Borough Council’s decision to grant permission for the development scheme.

But since a High Court judge shot down the action in April 2008, building work has taken off on the new terminal, extra car parks and highway improvements.

The project, which is due for completion by summer 2010, includes the provision of an interim security search area, which will be used while the terminal redevelopment is in progress.

Passengers using the airport since December have started to use the interim departure lounge, which includes a larger tax-free shop, a licensed bar, a Cafe Rittaza unit, seating for around 500 passengers and four departure gates. Outside, the runway resurfacing work has been finished with work on the upgraded lighting and navigation systems said to be going well.

The extension to the eastern apron is also on target with all of these works hoping to be completed by the end of March.

Rob Goldsmith, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, said: “Despite the recent spell of bad weather, everyone has worked hard to ensure that this project stays of schedule.

“During this work our emphasis is obviously on the safety and security of our passengers, as well as maintaining high levels of customer service during the redevelopment process.”

Good to see such a good passenger figure of 71, 100 for December

Top performing routes were

Edinburgh 10144
Prestwick 9421
Gerona 7214
Dublin 6006
Tenerife 4320
Murcia 4337
Alicante 3663

Other good routes off to a good start was the winter Easy Jet service to Geneva 3303 which started mid Dec , however this service only has 8 flights a week this winter as opposed to 11 last year and some flights have been cut mid week in January ( no real surprise )

Palmair flights held up well despite using larger aircraft now and Barbados was operating at about 80 %

If I may ask, as a Polish man myself - I see a lot of other Polish people living here, and more are moving. Some go back, some go elsewhere - but the UK to Poland routes have got to be very profitable.

It is just annoying a airport near me doesn't have any routes, even more annoying for the drive to either Stansted or Bristol.

Hi frnikolai,

The problem with the flights to Poland from many of the UK regional airports, like Bournemouth, is that the amount of people using the flights has been very low. Meaning that the airline looses money flying the routes. That's why they get dropped.

There are lots of Polish registered cars driving around here in Bournemouth, so maybe if these people had flown over you would still have the opportunity to fly from Bournemouth airport.

I own a Polish registered car, and I drove over when I moved. But I won't drive all the way back - I am very surprised with the low demand, I guess they drive to Bristol or Stansted.

Profitable Routes

Why would they want a sweeter deal ? They should concentrate on gaining profitable routes, in an area full of Pax waiting to fly. Everyone in the South has had enough of travelling to Gatwick, Stanstead and the rest. BOH has massive potential. The cost of getting to the Big Airports and the Parking adds up to more than cost of the Flight.

I'd laugh my wotsits off, if Easjet nipped in at the last minute !

This is the Ryanair model, nail the airport operator to the deck re charges etc or they leave or threaten to leave to scare the operator into dropping the charges.

There are a few routes on the Ryanair network and possibly bases that only exists because of sweetners. They are also very good at dropping routes as soon as the sweetner stops or is cut back.

I agree it would be funny if Easyjet were to get in there however I doubt it would happen. Easy will concentrate on building up their network at LGW where they are to face additional competition this summer in the form of Aer Lingus who are advertising like hell. There will also be opportunities in Italy for Easy with the recent happenings at Alitalia.

Have travelled to BOH several times over the last 6 weeks fro EDI and one has to question how long this will remain at double daily, whilst the morning BOH/EDI and the evening EDI/BOH are realatively busy the morning EDI/BOH and evening BOH/EDI are desperately quiet - there was 9 on one sector one evening. The problems here are due to the awful timings. The PIK/BOH was increased to double daily for the second time recently and has been cut back to daily again, I can only assume the yield is better on the EDI or it would probably have been cut at the same time.

State Visit

Apparently MOL was at BOH today ! State Visit or collecting a Bag full of Paper ??

It would be a shame if they spent all that money on a Temp Airport, while the real thing was being built and no new business came through the door !

Still better off with a range of carriers rather than a monopoly of just one !

Surely Ryanair1 knows whats happening ??

And what is it exactly MOL would like BOH to "hopefully deliver" to him?? A huge concession no doubt that will give Ryanair another unfair advantage over the other operators. BOH would do everyone a great service if they stood up to MOL and charged him the same rates as everyone else and maintain an even playing field for all. If Ryanair backed out of BOH Easy and some of the others would soon come knocking on the door to fill the vacant apron space I'm sure!!
Stop bending over backwards (or is it forwards) for MOL, give him BOH T&C's and let him decide!!

strange rumour on Palmair thread that the contract has gone to Flybe and the 118 seater ERJ-195.

I find this hard to believe:

1) can the a/c reach TFS? HER? MLA?

2) whats happening to all the cabin staff who are employed directly by Palmair?

Hope someone can clarify. They should know now whats going on in April 09.

At the moment LS is flying with Palmair cabin crew in the back, some have been trained to operate a Jet2.com service some are not being used at the moment. Great bunch of people to work with and I hope they find a permanent provider of machinery as soon as possible.
